Baby Names

Is Aiden a popular name in your circle of friends or area where you live?

I keep seeing Aiden pop up on the top baby name lists.  I find it so odd that I have so many friends, friends siblings, relatives and such with babies/little kids and not one is named Aiden.  I do have one friend of a friend that named her daughter Ayden- that is it.  Anyone else agree that this is not such a popular name?  Any other names like this that everyone claims is so popular but you have never met one with the name?

  • In 1 year in my circle of friends we had Caden, Cayden, and Hayden. The 'Aiden' sound is very very popular right now. Aiden is definitely popular in my area based on the local hospital top 10 names.

  • We don't have that so much, just the variations of it.  You know, add random letter to the front and **bang** new name.  And the spellings--yikes.
  • at gymboree there are so many here

  • There's a lot here in MI.

  • It's popular here.

  • It is insanely popular, especially when you factor in all the youneek spellings. I seriously loathe this name now.
  • It is all over the place here-- I know 3 aiden's and 4 braiden's... sooooooo popular!
  • Several Aiden's in my area... as well as some variations - Hayden is another popular one.

  • I don't know of any Aiden's around here but I've heard the variations (Brayden, Caden, etc). I'm sure once our LO is here and in daycare/school we will hear of a lot more.
  • I don't know any IRL.
  • Yes, it is hugely popular here. I love that name but wouldn't use it in favor of something less common.
  • I know one Aiden, but that's it.  Same thing with Olivia-- I love this name and might consider it if it wasn't number 2 in the US, but I dont know a single one!  Where are they all hiding?
  • I don't know anyone named Aiden. I know a Jayden that is 2.
  • Yes, it's popular where we live but if you like it, use it!!
  • If it is not Aiden it is Jayden, Brayden or Caden.

Also, I always have to point out when people say they don't know anyone with blank name - how many 6 month olds do you know? Unless you are a daycare provider or school teacher, chances are, if this is your first child, you do have a limited amount of children you do know. Yes, some names are more popular in certain areas then others, but keep in mind that you will be meeting a lot more children your childs age soon.

exactly my thoughts. it's funny when ppl say they don't know anyone with a particular name which to them means it isn't really that popular.

  • Nope, sorry. :) It's ridiculously popular everywhere I've gone. I know of lots of kids with that name.

  • I don't know any Aiden but I know Caden, Shayden, and similar versions of the name.
  • I think it's crazy popular.  I don't really know that many kids but in DS and DD each have an Aiden/Aidan in their daycare classes of 22 and 24.  I also remember an Aidan in the infant room.  I have one friend that has an Ayden and I probably have other acquaintances who have named their sons this.

  • I know 3 Aidens and one Ayden and know OF a few more (unsure of those spellings as they are friend's of friends).  I have always loved the name, but the popularity of it turns me off.

  • extreeeeemely popular in ohio. i know 4.
  • I actually grew up with a GIRL named Aiden.  So every time I hear it, I think "girl".  But she's now... 28 years old.

Other than her, I haven't met (or heard of) any other Aidens around my area, although my BIL and his wife are considering it for their DS #2.

  • My friend has a little boy named Aiden. Other than that, I don't know any, but I'm not around kids as often as other people are.

Same here! 3 of my girlfriends that are expecting boys are using it! All spelled different... And 2 of my friends just had boys that named them Aiden!

  • Aiden isn't #1 in Pennsylvania, it #11.  Maybe that is the reason you don't see it as much.

Aiden is #18 in my state and I only know one baby with that name.

  • Aiden is EVERYWHERE here.  So is Brayden, Jayden, etc... stop the madness!

  • Yes, I know a couple of kids (and a horse) with this name.
  • YES!  Soooo...many...Aidens!  Sad
  • It's also everywhere here.
  • I don't know any personally, but it is pretty popular here too.  However where we live Irish and Italian are the predominant nationalities, so those are the most common kinds of names. The popularity of Aiden might be a regional thing.
