They're not the same, but I don't think you need both... but nothing wrong with having both either.
We have the rainforest jumperoo. Lydia loved it. But they say babies shouldn't spend a lot of time in it each day because it can be bad for their hips. An exersaucer doesn't have as much bounce, but a lot more activites to keep baby occupied.
We have the jumparoo, it is not like an exersaucer. DD loves it. It is her favorite toy. I put her in an exersaucer and she was not interested at all. I am so glad she has the jumparoo.

We had both and loved both! You don't technically need both but we used each one at different stages. Check out the buckaroo' jumperoo (the brown and red one)...it is the cutest. Prewarning, jumperoo's will get your child to poop every time We had an around the world exercauser. The toy part stays in place and the child walks around it. I loved it because you can take the seat off of it when they are standing and use it as a learning table. More bang for your buck! If I had space issues...I would say we used the jumperoo more & would have bought that one if I couldn't have fit both.
we had the baby einstein jumper, and DD loved it. It seemed to be the least likely to tip over and the sit spins. She loved it. You never know what they're going to like. I say read safety ratings and then after that it's probably a personal preference.
For ds I only got him the jumperoo & we both loved it! He loved jumping & the music was really cute. It was the ONLY time he would let me clean the kitchen or fold laundry! I don't plan on getting an exersaucer this time around, I'll stick with what I know.

We had both--neither are necessary and either are nice to have. DS loved the jumperoo. We even took it on a long car ride with us so he could jump himself silly in the hotel room afer the first night and after we arrived at my mom's the second. Not every kid poops everytime they're in it. DS was bf and pooped every 7-10 days. The jumperoo did nothing for him.
The exersaucer did get used longer and if there was only room in the budget for one, I'd get the exersaucer over the jumperoo.
