Pregnant after a Loss

ordering BM dressed for friends wedding!

My friend is close to ordering BM dresses for us for her wedding.  I'm about 4 1/2 weeks along, and clearly not ready to tell anyone, especially after last time. I will be about 8 months at her wedding, assuming nothing goes wrong.

How do I order a dress when I'm hoping to be an elephant by the time I have to wear it?!

Re: ordering BM dressed for friends wedding!

  • I would confide in the bridesmaid shop and see if they can hold off.... but not tell the bride and freak her out.  You are going to need to do some serious reworking of a dress to make it work at 8 months and don't want to be stuck with one that definitely wont work then.....

  • LOL!  Isn't it fun?!  I am in a similar situation, although the wedding I am in is in May when I will be about 4 1/2 months.  For me, the bride picked out the dress and then we went to the shop (on our own) to have measurements taken.

Maybe you could explain to the person who takes your measurements about your situation and they can help to make the decision on dress size.  It might not hurt to tell the bride and ask her not to share the news with anyone else.  Even though my husband and I have swore to secrecy this time around, we have told a few people as needed....

    Good luck!

  • Thank all!

It is a little fun to have a secret, but in the 3 days since I've known I've already done so many sneaky things to hide it that I feel a little guilty for lying :) Plus it doesn't help that I still need my second round of betas tomorrow, so I'm still worried something will go wrong...

  • You are going to have to make arrangements for a maternity dress, even if you can only confide with the bridal shop.  One of my friends was 5 or 6 months along when she was in my wedding, and we had the hardest time making it work.  We couldn't get enough fabric to alter the dress in time, so we had to use something that almost matched . . . it was a nightmare.  I am sorry you are in such a situation, but I'd definitely see if you could order bigger right off the bat.  GL!

  • First off congrats!  But, I just wanted to tell you, I'm in the same situation!  I talked to the seamstress and she said that you can order extra material when you order your dress (by the yard).  That way you guarantee that it matches the dresses, etc.  I'm in two weddings this year, one when I'm 7 months and one at 9+ months.  For both, I talked to the brides to see if they were okay with me being pregnant or if they wanted to replace me and have me be a personal attendant.  They were both adamat that stay, so for the first I ordered extra material and will have the dress altered, and for the second she found a dress that comes in both regular and maternity, so I ordered the maternity and will have to have it altered if I have the baby!

So, good luck!  But, it can be done!!!!
