I haven't seen the most recent episodes, but the birth special made it look like Josie has a private room. I'm torn...I think if I was a parent of a baby there I'd be more than annoyed, but as a viewer, I'm glad they're showing the reality of it. I've been pretty impressed with how the show is handling it so far.
I haven't seen the latest episode but the first one made it appear as though Josie had a private room. It's possible they're all private rooms. That's how our NICU was. Maybe theirs is the same way so they close the doors to each individual room? IDK. I would still be ticked about a bunch of random people being on the unit though. Even if I was able to close the door to my LOs room.

Different hospitals have different rules. Prior to our until closing because of H1N1, you could bring in anyone over age 14 (the exception being siblings). I had a photographer come in and wouldn't trade those photos for anything.
in the People article, you could see that they are not in a private room. They are actually in the NICU. Josie was curtained off and JB and Michelle were squished into the picture.

I would have liked that!
The only people allowed in our NICU were parents and grandparents ONLY!

I don't think it would bother me so much if they weren't there all the time, and I have a feeling they are only there once in awhile to get a few minutes of a shot and probably leave. I imagine there isn't a ton of cameras, maybe one with a small camera and a sound guy.
Our NICU allowed those over 16, and only 4 visitors at a time. I wish I had brought a photographer in to take pics, however DH was able to get some great shots.

Six degrees of separation here, but a friend of a friend (as TLC's offices are local here in MD so there are some employees who live around here).... told me that there was one camera man who did the video footage also took some still shots for People and the Duggars and one sound man. They also said that for the scene with the whole family meeting Josie she was in a private room (and I suspect that she has always pretty much been in a private room for the most part). Like the pp said many hospitals have different policies and they had to have a major meeting to discuss how to handle this situation while still tending to the care of their patients. But I too am torn about wanting to have the best care for every preemie, but wanting to spread the news about preemie awareness.

I totally agree with this. I don't want to compromise Josie's care, but at the same time, I do want more awareness of preemies and causes for premature birth. It is so sad, but it seems in this society that it does take a cover on People magazine for the general public to pay attention to an issue...
OK, just watched the new episode and it does look like they're just in the NICU. It sounded like they moved her to a different hospital, too, so that may explain why she was in a private room before and not now. Or could just be that's how they did it so she could meet the whole family at once. Anyway, it would definitely upset me, but I am very happy with how they've dealt with it on the show so far.
Re: duggars, cameras and NICU
no kidding! my brothers weren't allowed in, but random cameramen can get in?
note to self: deliver in AK next time.
(in AK my brothers prob would be the cameramen... har-dee-har-har)

It's not cool, IMO.

Good question!!!
How insensitive for the other NICU moms! ! !! I'd be *really* irritated.
