When did you start buying stuff?

I feel like I need to start preparing - especially since we probably won't be having a baby shower or anything and I don't want to go broke in those last couple months. But I also don't want to jinx anything by buying stuff. I did make my first purchase this week (a Moby wrap). When did you start buying stuff? I know a lot will wait until after we find out the gender - but I am antsy?

Re: When did you start buying stuff?

  • My first question is when are you due? I see your ticker says you are 13 weeks and 1 day pregnant and that's exactly how far along I am and my due date is August 24th. Just curious if yours is the same or close to mine. =) In regards to your question we started buying a few things like the double stroller and baby seats and a double breast pump only because we found a really great deal at Target when they were putting their baby stuff on clearance. If the items hadn't been so cheap and if we weren't worried they would be selling out we more than likely would have waited. Other than the clearance items we haven't really bought to much yet because we are waiting until we find out their genders. =)

  • I am due August 22nd. Ah clearance, I wish we knew genders now for all of the clearance winter stuff.

  • I started buying a few random things when I would see them on clearance as soon as I found out I was pregnant ( gender neutral sleepers, baby bjorn, ect). I didn't find out I was having twins until 20 weeks though so I ended up needing twice the stuff! My girls were born at 31 weeks so I was glad that I had done that...you never know when twins could come! My advice is to join your local MoMs group. Mine has a sale twice a year with special members only shopping days and an online swap spot. Until you find out their genders it could be hard to buy clothes, but you can always start with the other stuff when you see good deals.
  • We are also not having a baby shower, but we didn't buy anything until 24 weeks, which marked early viability.  Afterwards, we bought a few things that were great deals or things that we found second hand from our local MoM club (double snap n go stroller, etc.).  A week ago we bought the cribs and I started buying newborn necessities in the last few weeks as well.

  • We bought a crib, dresser and armoire (it was a great deal so we didn't want to pass it up!) My in-laws will buy the other crib but we told them we didn't want them to order it or buy it until closer to my shower (30 weeks). Like one of the previous posters, we just bought a Graco Duoglider from Target this past Saturday because it was 50% off (regularly $139 - got it for $69). Our big u/s is tomorrow so we might buy a couple outfits for them but no other major purchases until probably closer to 24 weeks...

  • You are making me think I need to stop at Target and look at the clearance.

  • Early!  I bought some cloth diapers at 7 weeks.  (It was an after Thanksgiving sale, I couldn't pass up!)

We have one carseat, we will buy the other this weekend.

I say buy when you are comfortable.  I try to think positive.

  • So far we have bought the nursery furniture and bedding. We are buying one or two large items per month so we don't touch the savings we have. I have coupons for 20% off at BRU starting this weekend so I think I will get the pack n plays. We aren't going to go crazy with clothes and smaller items until later.
