2nd Trimester

Ok, so I know we're not supposed to "diet" but...

Do you still monitor what you eat in terms of quantity, etc? I'm sitting here still hungry, could probably eat a whole bag of popcorn, but I just had an enormous bowl of pasta and veggies (and know I shouldn't eat anymore!). I also try to watch what I take in everyday just to make sure my portions/amout I eat isn't way out of control. What's your approach?

By the way, I've gained the normal weight that I'm supposed to, so its not as if I'm not eating enough (in case that's what you were thinking!)

  • I still count calories and fat content and carb content... its just habit for me and I am keeping my weight in check. I have a fitness competition 4 months after baby comes.

4 months after! wow, good for you - at least you'll know you'll be in shape after LO is here ;)

I'm gonna try my hardest. If anything it will motivate me. I'm concerned how my body will bounce back at 30 years old!

  •  I monitor what I eat and how much excercise I get just like I did before gettting KU.  No one said pregnancy was an excuse to go overboard and eat complete crap for 9 months.

This is exactly how i feel. When people see me at the gym I tell them just because I am pregnant doesn't mean I get to be fat or lazy. Of course fitness is my part time job so I've gotta set an example.

Indifferent 4 months????!!!! holy! it usually takes an average of 6 months to prepare for one, and that's not after having a baby. Good for you! Are you planning on breastfeeding?

OP: I still keep things in moderation. But my portions have gotten bigger. For instance, instead of 1 piece of toast I will have 2, instead of 1 apple a day I will have 2. I usually drink a protein shake with soy milk before bed(I never did prior to pregnancy) this way I can sleep through the night, before I would wake up 2 o'clock in the morning with my tummy growling. SO its about an extra 500 calories a day. But I don't usually count calories. IF your eating clean there is no need to.

  • Give the belly what it wants......

... in moderation. You just ate carbs and vegies, try a protein or dairy. Eat a couple of pieces of sliced turkey, or a yogurt, etc.

  • Ack bump fart....

Ya I know I doubt I will actually do the competition but like I said its motivation. I am planning on breastfeeding as long as LO agrees. I went 7 months last time. Which means no suppliments till after thats done other than protein shakes. I miss my NO and fat shredders!

  • So I'm not the healthiest eater, but I don't take pregnancy as an excuse to stuff my face full of junk either.  If you're eating a balanced diet and correct portions you should be fine, but if you're still hungry and haven't gained too much weight so far, I'd take that as a hint to just have an extra snack.  A piece of fruit, granola bar or some cheese and crackers or something.

  • I monitor QUALITY more than quantity. I do my best to only have a real pop once a week, I get my water, I get LOTS of fiber, fruits and milk every day. But If I feel like I just really need ice cream or something I have it and dont feel too bad.
  • I've never really monitored how much I eat but I just try to well-balanced healthy meals.  I go through phases when I'm ravenous and as long as I'm stuffing my face with healthy foods, I'm not worried.

I still exercise although at a lower level than I used to.

I can be an emotional eater so I try not to keep a lot of sugary foods in the house.  I've definitely eaten more desserts than before, but I think I generally eat more dessert in the winter than in the summer anyway.

  • I'm kind of with you on this one. I've always had a small appetite, but I feel it increasing the past several weeks. I'm trying to allow myself to eat a little extra, but not go overboard.

That would be awesome if you did! Breastfeeding will be your shredder lol.

  • The only thing I'm doing is thinking am I really hungry, or just craving something? But if I AM hungry, I definitely keep eating.

  • I always watch what I eat, I still exercise 5-6 days a week, cardio, strength and yoga.  I'm planning on giving BFing another shot, but I'm still running my marathon in October, so I'll have plenty of time to bounce back.

You CAN do it!  I did my first figure competition four months after DS was born.  It was awesome motivation!

To the OP: I eat six small meals a day of lean protein, complex carbs, healthy fats and occasional treats.  I monitor my portions closely.  It's just how I roll pregnant or otherwise.

yes i still monitor what i eat. I don't eat much different than i did pre-pregnancy, only a tad bit more.  Being pregnant is not an excuse to eat garbage IMO.

    Ditto this.

I have a  1/2 marathon scheduled 8 weeks postpartum,  will go back to my normal racing schedule in the late summer, and I'm scheduled to do a tri in the fall.

  • For the second time in my life (the first time was with DS) I am not at all concerned with what I eat and it is so totally liberating. As some one who spent the better part of half her life as a sever anorexic I just let all my guard down when I am pregnant.  That said, I gained almost 60 pounds with DS (and I was 37) and lost it all and I will probably gain it again with this one (at 40). I intend to lose it so I just let myself relax and not worry about anything, especially weight gain.
