opinions, best sling/carrier for air travel?

Hi, everyone. This is my first time posting here. My son is 3 months old, and he loves to be carried in the moby.

Next month, we will be flying for the first time, and I am nervous about using the moby getting on and off the plane.

For those of you who travel with your moby on airplanes, any advice? And if you use another carrier (such as a sling, etc) for air travel, what do you use and why/?

I don't currently BF in the moby (don't know how). Since I know I'll want to BF DS on take off and landing, I'm concerned the moby will be too cumbersome to take off and put on.

Any thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

  • I flew with DD when she was 10 weeks old and I traveled with her in a moby type carrier and a back pack diaper bag.  Worked great!!  On the plane, i had ring sling that I used a bit.  If I had known how to use it then like i do now, it would have been much mroe helpful!  If your lo is light enough you could probably do the whole trip in a ring sling and be okay.  Perosnally, I would rather have a wrap/moby for the airport and a RS for the plane ride.

  • I found a carrier to be most important/useful in navigating the airport with all my crap.  My LO is long and big and unless I can stretch my legs and/or lean back like a crazy slob (impossible on an airplane) wearing him while sitting down is totally uncomfortable.  I kept my Beco under the seat so if he needed to be walked up and down the aisle, it was ready.

If all you have is a Moby, just leave it on and pop your LO in and out for BFing etc.  You can tie it in the front if needed depending on your size so you're not sitting on the knot.

  • I use my woven for air travel and absolutely love it. Since there's no metal, I haven't had to take it off for security yet and I've flown with it several times. I wear him in a pre-tied front carry, and tie the tails on my side. That way he can easily fall asleep while we're waiting to board, and I can take him out when we're on the plane to nurse him or play (now that he's older he doesn't like to be worn if I'm not moving).

  • I flew with DS when he was about 4.5 months old.  I chose a Peanut Shell sling over my Beco and Moby-type b/c I could easily shove it in a carry on if DH was carrying him.  I didn't have DS in it on the plane though.  I just held him and cradled him to nurse.  Good luck!

  • I flew with kiddo at 3 months and wrapped him.  I had to take him out anyway to nurse on the plane because the space was so tight.  Technically, you aren't allowed to wear kiddo during taking off and landing - although only once was I asked to take him off.
  • Thanks, everyone. This is all really great information. I think I'll just wear the moby rather than take it on and off. I hadn't thought of that. We are thinking about getting a sling, so maybe that might be an option, as well.

The beco looks great, but I know that it would be a hard sell with DH since we were given a hand-me-down baby bjorn. It is hard to get him to see the difference.

    Thank you again, everyone!!
