If I know the number I might answer..or if I feel the mood maybe..I really dislike talking on the phone..as in almost phobia dislike..Recently I keep it on silent as I am getting attacked by a creditor that hangs up as soon as I answer and the one time it did go through it got disconnected seconds after..so I dont bother..if it's important they'll text me
My youngest sister changes phone numbers almost as often as she changes clothes. I always pick up if it's her area code. Otherwise, you can leave a message.
If I don't know the number I always screen and listen to the VM. I have a dallas area code but use to live in MI. If I see a MI area code I know it is likely a "real" call but I still don't answer.
Now I am FORCED to answer the calls if they say "unknown" because any call from University Hospital comes across as unknown. I still only answer if I am waiting for a dr to call or I THINK it could be a dr calling.
But my general rule of thumb is if the number isn't saved in my contact list, I don't answer.
I voted "yes", but joining the 'do not call' list can nearly solve your salesperson problem.
Love: 8/2000 | Marriage: 7/2005 | Baby makes three: 3/28/2007 | And one more makes...SIX?
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
I'll answer it if I'm feeling like i want to yell at someone or they keep calling all day with no message left. (after a year of having this number I still get tons of calls from the past person who had my number.)
I dont answer it unless I know it. I have a slightly irritating used to be crazy/may still be ex that randomly calls here and there. If its from his area code i figure its him but ya never know when he may move back to the area. Most people would change their number but initially it was my one way to have control is to keep my number and decide if I answer now he is slightly less crazy so I dont see the point in changing it.
Nope: I figure there aren't many people who would call me who aren't saved in my contact list, and if it is someone who's number I don't have, and they really need to talk to me, they'll leave a message or call back. I learned my lesson when MIL (whom I do NOT speak on any regular occasion, long sad story...) got a new cell phone and called me looking for DH... well I answered and it took everything I had in me to be pleasant for those 3 minutes until I told her I had to go back to work. No more unknown numbers for me.
depends... i usually don't hear my phone ring because i don't have it on me 24/7. It depends on my mood too. Sometimes i just don't answer my phone and will only call back if they leave a voicemail.
also, i won't answer the call if its an unknown or private number --just out of spite.
As long as the number doesn't look like a salesperson/automated call (i.e. starts with 888) I answer it since my cell phone is my personal and business phone.
Not if it's a number that's not in my contacts. They can leave a message and I'll call them back. I never answer the house phone if it's a number that doesn't come up on caller id. Everyone we know calls our cell first anyway.

I voted yes... Im just too curious. I figure if its someone I dont want to talk to then I'll hang up I think I'm more likely to NOT answer when I know WHO it is lol
I don't know all phone numbers for extended family and friends so if I recognize the area code I will answer the call. Since we are military and stationed in a state where we have no family if the area code is local and I don't know the number I don't answer it.
usually no, but depends. And lately, (especially if i'm at work when my cell rings) I just really quickly google the number and can figure out who it is quickly! If it's a cell number or no info comes up on google I don't answer, but sometimes I catch the info and see that it's my mortgage company, or the ultrasound place I made an appointment to last week, or my doctor's office calling from some other phone line, then I can answer really quickly!
Usually I don't answer though, cuz I'm an attorney and lots of my friends and family LOVE to give out my cell phone number to potential clients to call me up with their legal issues and I HATE taking these calls after 5 pm or on weekends! People LOVE to call me about some complex legal issue on a sunday at 3 pm! YUK!
Depends on who it is. For example: My oldest brother inevitably will call the day before a family event (my parent's birthday, anniversary, other brother's birthday, etc) and ask me if he can "go in" on what I bought them (because birthdays/anniversaries apparently come as a surprise to him every year). I won't answer those calls. Just one "for example."
Re: Clicky Poll: Do you answer your phone?

Sometimes. I can tell whether it's a telemarketer or not. But, this is for my cell phone. We dont have a house phone.
If it's a 800 number, then no. If it's in my area code I might... sometimes I let it go to voicemail and call back if I know the person that called.
This usually . However now I'm getting a lot of 800 number calls from my insurance (for a claim) so I've started answering for now.

I never get telemarketers or salesmen calling.
