responding to post when you don't know the answer

The question below about whether babies can taste made me wonder about a lot of the question posts.  It seems like a lot of posters respond to questions on the boards when they don't even know the correct answer.  And I don't mean saying "I don't know" - I mean giving the wrong answer.  Why do you feel the need to respond when you don't know??

Re: responding to post when you don't know the answer

  • Maybe they think they know? Or were told something wrong by someone else who didnt know and used that?..
  • Loading the player...
  • There's a poster on the board that is a habitual offender to this.

    Usually if I don't know I'll google.

    This.

  • I agree, sometimes ppl respond with outlandishly incorrect answers. But sometimes they are mis-informed and feel that what they are responding with is the truth.

  • Some people are misinformed.  The good thing is they'll probably see that they're wrong from other posts.

This is what I think.  That's why I actually don't rely on The Bump Boards for information.  I do the research myself, and I usually look for posts on here that share funny stories or help me relate my pregnancy experiences to others.  If I find something that I know is really wrong, I usually respond with a link to some "official info" with some facts on the subject.  It's not someones fault they don't know something's wrong until someone shows them the correct information.

  • I'll admit it.

    I don't know Smile.

I too look up info, and then sometimes ask here to relate to others. And I agree it's not always their fault, and I know some ppl appreciate being helped out with links and such.

  • i accidently responded incorrectly to something one time.  hopefully only one time.  :o)  mostly because i've never been pregnant before and was basing my answer on my own previous past experience.  but i was happy to find out from other posts that i was wrong.  and now i've learned not to post first to important medical questions people are asking.  i think.

  • you have to take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt.  There is a lot of conflicting information out there.

  • or when someone asks a question like, OWT, what are you having and what is your LO's hb? and someone will be like my LO's hb is 147 but I don't know what Im having yet.Indifferent Well that doesn't help!
  • because people are stupid and ignorant..

also.. a lot people feel the need to give their opinion or experience as FACT and then get offended when you tell them that they are wrong and that isn't fact.

A lot of posters respond to questions with information they know is wrong, but don't care because the correct information would make them "feel guilty" and how dare anyone do that. Confused

  • I don't know. Stick out tongue

But it drives me INSANE when people do this in real life! And I know a lot of people who do it.
