long story short, yesterday my doctor got worried because the baby was sitting low so she decided to do an ultrasound herself as the ultrasound tech had left for the day. Since my doctor is not a trained ultrasound technician she did the ultrasound wrong and thought she saw another baby in there.
Today the ultrasound tech called me after hearing what had happened and said that sometimes when you don't lift the ultrasound probe and just slide it across the belly - it can cause a mirror image. This would explain why my doctor saw two heads and extra limbs.
Anyways, the tech felt really bad and asked me to come and did a free ultrasound!! I got to see my baby girl again and she is such a cutie pie! No double heads!
Re: Update to my not so very pleasant appointment yesterday!
While it is FABULOUS that you got to go back in for another "proper" u/s, any OB should be trained in how to use an u/s.
Not necessarily! I had u/s that showed ONE baby too. But they weren't looking for more babies.
I get u/s's every other week and they never lift the probe; they glide it across my belly.
I agree with the others, Dr's should be trained to do U/S's properly. All of my Dr's take an additional peek after the tech is done and they know what they are looking at. If your Dr. doesnt know what s/he is doing, then s/he shouldn't be performing u/s's.
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
