What are some of the items that you moms can't live without? What do you guys wish you would've gotten for you LO that you didn't? What are some things that you've returned or never used?
I'm mostly trying to get a general list of stuff together that really makes a difference with LO. I don't want to spend money on stuff that won't get used a lot. However, I also don't want to pass something up if it would really come in handy.
Re: Must have baby items
My definite must have was a bouncer! She spent so much time in that thing! We would move her around from room to room in it, while we ate dinner, did housework, took a shower, etc. I also did like having a bumbo seat. When we went to the beach (at 6 months), we used it like a high-chair, and fed her sitting in it. Of course, we also use her pack-n-play when we spend the night away. She also loved her jumperoo and would get so high in that thing!!!
Now, I love my shopping cart cover (I got mine at www.kozypalcartcovers.com)
Allie never really liked the swing, so that was not a must have for me...but some babies like them.
baby k'tan carrier - it's like a moby wrap for dummies
boppy seat
if you get an exersaucer - get one that bounces too - I think evenflo makes it - I wish I got that instead of the baby einstein one we had.
instead of a baby bouncer - I wish I had got the baby bouncer rocker chair that FP makes now
items we used a lot:
swing (little lamb)
jumperoo
playmat (with the toys that hang down)
pack n play (for bassinet, changing table and now for playing)
boppy newborn lounger (LOVED) https://shopboppy.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=23
I used our bouncer upstairs while showering, etc. However, if I lived in a one-story house I probably could have just used the swing.
for bathtime until he started sitting, we used this kind of sling: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Summer-Infant-Summer-Infant-Deluxe-Baby-Bather-Blue/11020933
I'll be honest, we used everything to some extent. I'm not sure what items I would put on the don't need list... probably could have done without the bumbo. I'll try to think of other things.
We have used the bouncer tons...it is what contains her when I am showering, washing dishes, etc.
She really liked her swing (my little lamb) until recently...now the only time she'll go in it is if she wants some mellow down time
She has a playmat that has the toys hanging down that we got for Christmas but so far she isn't that into it...she almost prefers just laying on a quilt with her toys.
I like my boppy but I could have probably did without it, but I don't breastfeed. I am using it now for her to lounge in and to support her when she is trying so hard to sit up, oh and a foot rest on the ottoman to my glider lol when I am giving her a bottle
I couldn't live without my glider, but that is one of those items that some people just love and others hate. But it's where I rock her, read to her, feed her at night etc...it's been a lifesaver.
For us a sleep positioner has been a must because she hates to sleep flat on her back but couldn't stay on her side at first...she is growing out of it now but those first three months it was a must for me.
Sheet savers is another thing that I like...saves the sheet from spit up and drool, etc so if it happens in the middle of the night we don't have to change the sheet just the saver.
I have more I know but I am blanking right now...if I think of them after while I'll post again.
FP Starlight papasan swing (she sleeps in it) - plugs in to save on batteries
Boppy (for tummt time)
Ultimate sheets
Swaddle blankets with velcro
1. Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe blanket. (swaddles with velcro.)
2. Halo Sleep sack.
3. Fisher Price papasan swing. We are STILL using this.. and K is almost 10 months old. She still takes a lot of her naps in it because she refuses to nap in her crib. It's a habit we've got to break, (luckily she is only 17 pounds and not anywhere near the weight limit) but I seriously cannot imagine not having this swing with she was younger.
4. An "play gym" mat.
5. A white noise machine for the nursery. (we used the sleep sheep, but now we have the nursery white noise machine by Graco and love it. It plays music, white noise, has a built-in night light and has an ipod dock.
6. Medela In style pump (if you plan to BF)
Things we didn't use:
1. Our baby monitor. We have a small, one-story house and DD's nursery is steps from my bed. We don't use our monitor.
2. The bouncer. We only used it a handful of times. She didn't like it much.
3. The bumbo. She used it a couple times, but not a whole lot.
natural m/c and d&c at 10 weeks - 1/24/2014
DX w/ hetero C677t and A1298C MTHFR - 3/4/2014
Musts: (most probably already listed)
Gowns--I loved these when he was first born
Onesies with fold-over sleeves (Target)--I was too chicken to cut (or bite) his nails
Pamper's swaddlers--blue line to tell when wet/super soft/few leaks
Bouncer
Boppy (for nursing, tummy time, baby lounging, etc)
Exersaucer or jumperoo
Pack-n-play (this is where he slept until 5-6 months)
Johnny jump-up--he LOVES this
Video monitor
Baby tub with sling insert...and more recently, the Munchkin Duck Tub
Could live without's:
Swing--although I'm glad I got the one I did bc it can also be used as a toddler rocker or baby seat (sort of like a bouncer but stable)
Bumbo--he likes it and I've used it a good bit, but do not think it's been a lifesaver
Playmat
Swaddling blankets--Houdini hated them and always escaped
Sleep positioner
Also, not necessarily a must-have but if you are going to send them to daycare, I got these nifty "labels" for bottles/cups.
I wish I had gotten a sling/infant carrier of some sort for when he was itty bitty.
