I am new to the HSV area and need to schedule my annual exam. I'd love to use a midwife, but I've heard there are some weird laws in AL regarding midwives. Does anyone know of any in the area? If not, do you have an OB/GYN you'd recommend?
I'm not sure about midwives laws, but I absolutely LOVE my OBGYN!!! Her name is Dr. Rachel Petersen at All Women's OBGYN and she's absolutely wonderful. Totally held my hand throughout my pregnancy and afterwards. Their website is https://www.allwomensobgyn.com/ . Her partner is the Chief of Obstetrics at Crestwood Hospital and is just as wonderful!
My OB/GYN is Dr. Whitney Dunham and I LOVED her! She also has a midwife that works for her... Diane Sharp but I would definately not recommend her at all!!! I had to have a visit with her and she made me feel stupid.
I'm another happy customer at Clinic for Women. I see Dr. Delisle there but when you are pg, they have a rotation you go thru so that if you go into labor and your dr is not on call, you've at least met all of the doctors before they deliver you.
There are laws in Alabama that prohibit a midwife from delivering babies (at home births are also illegal) however the CFW has 3 Nurse Practitioners and one Nurse Midwife on staff for physical exams.
I have been very happy with everyone I have met there.
Before I saw Dr. D, I went to Patricia Miller. I really liked her as my GYN but I needed someone a little more empathetic for my OB needs. She is really good though if you are looking for someone who is very straight to the point
I'm in hsv, and I go to (and will birth with) a m/w but up in Fayetteville TN (45 min away). There is a law that prohibits m/w from delivering babies in AL (yep AL is not m/w friendly at all). Hence my going to TN.
Before going to my m/w I saw dr dunham. She's nice! But after the birth I will be switching to my mw for annual visits. If you are interested in my mw info send me a PM.
I also recommend Clinic For Women. I used to see Dr. Warren there but after I got pregnant I found out he no longer does deliveries. So now I see Dr. Rushing there and he is fantastic!
