How to organize?

I have a 6 drawer chest that is doubling as my changing table. My question is how do I organize it so that it's practical? I have most of the girls outfits on hangers in the closet, but I'm trying to figure out how to divide the drawers with the onesies/sleepers/socks . Did you have one drawer that was just NB stuff, one that was 0-3 months, etc. Or did you divide one drawer that was all onesies, one that was sleepers, etc? What did you use in the drawers itself? Did you use little rubbermaid containers, drawer liners, what?

Sorry so many questions. I've been going back and forth as to how I want to organize their stuff! I don't know why I'm so stuck on what to do!

Re: How to organize?

  • I too have a 6 drawer dresser. We'll have to see how this works in reality, but so far we've organized it by type of clothing. So we have onesies in one drawer, sleep gowns/sacks in another, hats and socks in another, etc. We have mixed preeemie, newborn, and 0-3 together so we may need to do some rearranging. In some drawers we don't have any dividers - just piles and piles of onesies. In other drawers we have some simple drawer divider bins from IKEA to hold the tinier things like socks. We've put overflow clothes (3-6 months) in a dresser in a different room.

  • I have all onesies and t-shirts together in one drawer, sleepers in another drawer, etc.  I usually only keep the size they are currently wearing in their drawers b/c then I know that what I am reaching for fits them.

In the beginning I had every size up to 0-3 (preemie, newborn, 0-3) in the drawers.  Once they started getting into 3-6 and 6 month then I removed/sorted the smaller sizes into rubbermaid containers.  I have been doing the same thing as we transition from size to size.

  • I have a 4-drawer dresser and I put 2 drawer dividers in each drawer (got them at the Container Store, but they are like these: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14223401).

I have some diaper change stuff in 1/3 of the top drawer, and the other 2/3 of the top have some preemie clothes.  The next drawer down is all newborn sleepwear (gowns, sleepers, onesies).  The third drawer down is all newborn "outfits" of different kinds.  The bottom drawer has some 0-3 sized things and shoes.  Larger sizes are hanging up for now and will get rotated in as needed.

  • My girl's clothes are organized by size in the dresser drawers. That way when they outgrow a size I can just take out the whole drawer rather than having to go through them. Most of their outfits are hung in the closet, also organized by size. I have their bigger size clothing pre washed and stored in Rubbermaid containers in the basement.
