Babies on the Brain

Why am I freak...

Simply because I cannot touch sponges/eggcrate/memory foam?  It causes a strong physical reaction, like nausea.

Seriously.

Is it that unusual?

Re: Why am I freak...

  • I have that reaction to certain things, too.  Some foam stuff and certain fabrics.  I say that it makes my guts feel weird because I don't quite know how else to explain it.
  • Loading the player...
  • nope, I can't touch certain things.

Touching raw meat freaks me out. Wink

  • DH is the same way with cotton balls.  Can't touch them.  It's really annoying.

  • ::giggles::

I don't think I've ever met someone with an aversion to those things. So I would have to go with yes. I could be wrong though.

  • Nope. People are very texture sensitive and that texture is unnatural to us. While it doesn't evoke a physical response, the memory foam stuff makes me squemish...like I want to draw up into my body....like when you hear nails on a chalkboard.

I will now and forever be a feather mattress girl.

  • My DH is like that with popsicle sticks.

  • I can't stand the way it feels/ sounds when things that are made of the material that car seat belts are made of rub or things like pantyhose rub together.

It actually makes me cringe and feel sick.  So no you aren't weird.  Or maybe we are both just super weird.

  • That's how I feel about mashed potatoes. I cannot help make them or serve them or watch someone eat them because I will vomit. Obviously I can't eat them.

ETA: I Love baked potatoes though. LOVE them. It is strictly the texture with mashed potatoes.

  • They're making fun of me at work.  Again.  By hiding bits of foam all around my office.

    Asshats.

  • I'm amazed! I've never met anyone with a texture thing IRL. My roommate has an aversion to cottage cheese, but I know food aversions for texture are pretty common. I've never heard of aversions to non-food items!

  • I had a lot of answers to that question, but that wasn't one of them...

  • Water chestnuts.  I cannot stand the texture of water chestnuts.  Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

  • I also can't touch those dust rags that are the microfiber kind.  I hate the way they feel, but mostly because my hands are dry I think.  Geez I am weird.

Ok, hotness, then give me some answers.

I'm sorry but I find this amusing. I'm a meanie like that though.

Funny, I love that. If I get a small piece of mesh I will fold it in half and rub it together for hours. (I can't think of what it is called! The stuff you wrap candy or almonds in at weddings. Mommy brain!) I always rub my seat belt together if I'm the passenger.

Buck that's exactly how I describe it too. Gives me the chills. I am like that with styrofoam and the like. No nausea though.

  • I get the chills, I get nauseated if I'm near it for too long.

I don't know what happened to me as a kid, but apparently it's screwed me up for life. LOL.  Glad to know I'm not alone on the weird phobias.

  • I can't stand that squeaking noise sand makes when you drag your heels across it.

Aarrrggjgsfaslkvj, I get the heebie jeebies thinking about it.  Serious.  I would rather listen to nails down a chalk board that sqeaking sand.

I think you are trying to send me into cardiac arrest.  Even the thought of it makes me cringe.

I've always done this with the silky ribbon that edges some blankets. When I was a kid I would slide it back and forth across my cheek to soothe myself to sleep.

DS does that it is adorable. He started doing it when he was very young, 3-4 months old and I would give him a blanket but take it out as soon as he fell asleep because it freaked me out.
