Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Got the side eye at the ER last night (long)

DD was spinning around and around w/ a toy and before I could stop her she fell and it hit her mouth. SHe was still bleeding a little after an hour so the pedi wanted me to have her seen to make sure she wasn't asperating the blood.

Anyway being a holiday it was busy and DD isn't sick like the other kids are sick, so obviously I want her no where near them.We tried sitting but she was bored and started throwing her binkey and Cheerios. I was holding her as much as I could but she was getting hungry and impatient so I gave her 2 donettes. Not the best snack, but hey, it was better than her showering the place with the Cheerios.

Once the area cleared out a little, I let her use the coloring table and every time I told her not to eat the crayons, she got mad and started to cry. Not much I can do about that, I'm not about to let her eat wax so she stops. The girl (no more than 20) next to us kept giving me the side eye when DD cried. Why she felt the need to judge, I have no idea because security was giving her  the side eye. She was being SUPER rough with her baby and yelling at him (6/7mo maybe) I thought she was going to smack him at one point!

They ended up bringing us to another waiting room, which was empty so DD got to get some energy out and was away from all the sick kids. They cheked her out, and is OK, which I am so relievd about.

  • Sometimes people that don't have kids just don't understand. I was at Kohl's, and a little baby was fussing. Not crying, not screaming, just fussing. There was a Kohl's employee that was across the aisle going on and on about people letting their kids scream in stores, how disrespectful, blah blah blah. I gave HER the side eye.

  • Ugh.  Sorry you had a bad experience.  I was "that mom" yesterday, too, only DD wanted to run around the waiting room and into the patient rooms as soon as doors opened.  If I held her on my lap, she started to scream.  Thankfully, most of the ppl waiting kept laughing at her.  I honestly try not to even make eye contact when I'm in those situations.  I try my best, but I don't need ppl giving me the side eye when DD acts her age.
  • The last time someone gave me the sideeye about DD, I asked her if she had a problem ;) She walked away, so I wasn't getting a side eye anymore! lol
