Why is pooping on the potty so hard?

We have peeing on the potty down pat.  But pooping is an issue.  He pooped on the floor the other day, DH got all worked up about it and made a big deal about it to Ty.  Now today, Ty starts pooping and starts crying for a diaper.  I tried putting him on the potty, but he continued to cry for a diaper!!  So I put him in a diaper, now he keeps whining like he is afraid to poop.  I keep telling him it is OK to poop in his diaper but he seems to be having issues.

    OK, he finally pooped in the diaper.  Then took it off crying.  I cleaned him up, he refused to lay down.  He seems tramatized over pooping with this whole potty training thing.
