Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Disney question....

We are planning to take DD to Orlando to visit friends and do the Disney thing next month.

Question: if you have taken your LO is it worth the convenience to stay on property and if so what Disney hotel or do you recommend or would it be just as easy to stay off property? If you have any recommendations, please let me know! Getting down to the wire....

Thanks in advance! :)

Re: Disney question....

  • We havent taken DD but I have gone with family with littles ones. Totally worth it when you have a sleeping toddler and you can hope on a boat or shuttle then walk right into your hotel room. May fav place we stayed was this lodge with cabins, sorry dont know the name but it was a ferry ride to most places and so nice. have fun!

  • We're going for an overnight Orlando trip next month and we aren't staying on property. We wanted a 2-room suite and the disney versions were hella $$$$$.

We're staying at the Doubletree in Lake Buena Vista (barely off property).

If you're going for a few days, it might make more sense to stay on property.

  • It is worth every penney IMO to stay on the property. You can catch the monorail and be back in your room quickly.
  • We haven't taken DS yet, but DH and I went on our honeymoon and stayed off of Disney property. I am thinking that when we do take him, we will stay at Disney for the exact reason PP stated. If he got grumpy or was really tired, the simplicity of being close to your hotel seems to make the most sense.

I used to work with a lady who has stayed at every single one of the hotels and she says that the Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom are her favorites.

Hope you have lots of fun!!

  • I always like staying on property with or without DS.  With DS I like having the option to drive to the park or take the shuttle, ferry, or monorail.  If you stay on property it is free parking at all the parks.  Though it is better to use hotel transportion when going to Magic Kingdom.  There are some hotels that are much cheaper that are on property but not disney hotels.

To OP- Just keep in mind that only 3 hotel are on the monorail.  Most all others, even ones that are close, use bus transportation and one bus usually caters to 2 or more resorts, so getting back and forth between hotel and park isn't always quick and easy like you would think.

We've stayed at the Beach Club and the Contemporary (on the monorail) and we never went back to the room (even with a 1 y/o last year).  She just napped in her stroller.  I just had this discussion with two friends of mine who also stayed on the property and never ended up going back to the room.

We only ever go for 4-5 days, so that may make a difference.

  • We are going in April and will be staying on property.  We have actually only stayed on property but this time we are staying at the Contemporary.  Usually we stay at resorts where we take a bus to the park (Boardwalk, etc).  This time, since we will have DS with us and Magic Kingdom seems to be the park with the most options for him, we wanted to stay closer to it for afternoon breaks/naps.
  • I would stay on property. However, we plan to go in May and will stay at the Doubletree as well as the PP. That hotel is a suite with a bedroom so we can put the kids to bed and still stay up. My DS is 4 and DD will be about 20 months. We plan to rent a double stroller and they may or may not fall asleep.

We took my DS when he was 2 1/2 and stayed at the Pop Century Disney Resort. It was all we needed, being a value resort, because we were only in the room to sleep.  DS slept in the stroller (when he would). To me, it takes too much time to get back to the hotel, have a nap, and return to a park - regardless if you stay on or off property.

We can't afford any hotel that is on the monorail but that IS the way to go if you can.

  • We've only stayed at the Cabins at the Wilderness Resort.  They were pretty nice and it was great to have our own kitchen.

  • Staying on property is the BEST way to go!
  • And while I'm thinking about it, if you page Sunshine Clarity, she just got back from a week long Disney World vacation and stayed on property.
