Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If you have a part time nanny

How often do you need to find new sitters?  We have had two so far, and my son is 13 months old.  Our first nanny stayed for 7 months, and our current nanny has been with us for 2 months so far.  They were both wonderful, and I know that they can't commit to more time because they are college students and their schedules change.  But I hate switching people on my son, and I REALLY hate the interviewing and hiring process.  I guess that's not really a question, just a vent...

Re: If you have a part time nanny

  • I was a parttime nanny to a little boy from 6 months until he was 5. I miss him! I think thats a bit rare though. I was working and doing school parttime then.

PS- i saw you post about your little girl turning 2!  :-)  Are you having a party?

  • We have had the same one for 16 months...well, I suppose 14 months since she didnt start the day he was born.  Ours is older, she is retired and very grandmotherly, so we don't have to worry about the college student thing.  Maybe you could look in the older age range?  My son ADORES her, they go for long walks, do crafts and read books all day and she tells me that she is in the best shape of her life chasing after him.  The only downside is, and I am a paranoid mommy, he naps in his PNP downstairs because I don't want her on our carpeted stairs with him.  I also do not let my MIL on the stairs as she is super unsteady though.

You have the wrong person!  Is there another Chloe on here?  I just have one son.  Thanks, though!

  • I'm on my 3rd part time nanny right now.  I hire students and they tend to have a greater turn over rate.  I used www.care.com to find them - though they have gone to school where I work.  The last nanny was a grad student and she graduated.  My new nanny is only a junior - so I'm hoping she will stay for longer.
