How did you handle getting yourself ready for work in the morning when your husband wasn't home? I go back soon and am dealing with my one who is very fussy and I am thinking about how I am going to get ready, shower, etc.
i do everything i need to do before the babies wake up. they are up at seven to eat, so i get up at six and shower, dress, eat, do hair/makeup, etc.... that way when they are up all i have to do is feed them, change diapers, dress, and out the door to daycare.
I get up at 4:30 am every day - I get ready and then put the babies in the car and leave at 6:30am. It is a ton easier now that the babies don't eat until after 7:00am - but when they were still taking the early morning bottle I would wake them up to feed them before getting in the car.
Get everything you can done at night.. lay out your clothes, get bottles ready, pack diaper bag, etc. My advice is get up early and get ready - you may even have a few minutes to yourself to watch the news or have a cup of coffee (these moments to me are spectacular and make my day so much better - even if they don't happen all the time)
Thankfully MH is always home so we switch off so the other can shower but I still do not wash my hair more often than every other day so that the getting ready process can be done in like 15-20 min. We also do everything the night before, all bottles, papers for day care, lay out kids' clothes, etc. If I were alone, I'd either try to jump in the shower & do makeup before they get up, or right after they've eaten &leave them to hang out in their cribs for 15 minutes or so since they tend to be more content to lie there & look at their mobiles, etc after eating. (they're 6 months old). I really can't get up early b/c my LOs are terrible sleepers & I'm already up half the night with them and would function even worse than I already do if I had to lose another half hour to hour's sleep in the morning.
Another thing I learned to do early on was wear one of my old maternity tshirts over my work clothes until the babies are in their car seats...nothing worse than a big spit up all over my work clothes & having to run & change at the last minute!
for the most part, my babies understand morning = quiet time. i have one baby that sits in the swing, and one baby the chills in the bouncer when i get ready. they look at each other and coo - i think they are just happy to be awake.
but in the beginning, they fussed a lot. but what could i do? i had to get ready. so i let them fuss and i guess they just figured it out that mornings were not playtime.
i shower at night though.
