I thought.... (FF related and possibly flameful)

That if you make a bottle and your LO didn't finish it, you could put it in the fridge and that would stop the break down of bacteria, and keep it from spoiling.  Am I wrong?

  • DS almost always finishes his bottles so I actually don't know. Good question. I know if it's at room temp it's good for an hour.

  • With breastmilk, it can be used up to I think 6 hours after the LO takes the bottle, but with formula it has to be used within an hour or thrown out.

  • It's supposed to be good for only a short amount of time (a few hours maybe??) after using it.

I often keep them though (flameful yes. Do I care? No. LOL) for a few hours and let her finish it - I'll either dump usually it into a new bottle. I don't do it all the time but once in a while won't hurt.

  • You are supposed to throw it out an hour from when they started the bottle.  The fridge doesn't stop the bacteria.

  • With formula you are not supposed to... but I have if there is a lot left. They have to finish it within an hour.
  • I'll keep them in the fridge, especially if I make an 8 ounce bottle and he only drinks 4 or 5 - I'll try to give him the rest a little later on. Alimentum is expensive! I'll put a different nipple on it before giving it to him again.

  • I used to do it with DD#1.  If I knew she'd finish it within a couple of hours, I just stuck it back in the fridge.  Technically, you aren't supposed to, but we never had a problem.
