When to open a shipped gift?

We got the car seat off our registry shipped to us yesterday. Our baby shower is not until Feb.27. Should I open it now to find out who gave it to us and send him/her a thank you note immediately, or should we bring it to the shower and "open" it at the shower (and send thank you card along with others)? I say "open" b/c the fact that it is a car seat is obvious from the shipping box (there is no gift wrapping). TIA!

I'd open it now. I don't think whomever sent it would think it rude to open it upon getting the gift:)

Open it now and send a thank you card asap so that the gift giver knows that you have recieved it. If it was a big deal for them to have you open it at your shower, they could have shipped it to themselves, wraped it and brought it to your shower.

To add, I find it entirely unnecessary to take gifts to the shower frompeople who won't be there. Most people like seeing their gift opened. Seeing other gfifts opened, ESPECIALLY from people not even there, just isn't whatpeople care all that much about.

Open now and send out a TY card ASAP they are probably waiting for it to confirm you got the gift!

Agreed! But, I'm actually taking a shipped gift to my shower. It is from one of the hostess' of my shower, she is flying and didn't want to deal with the hassle of taking a gift through security, who will be at the shower.
