Maybe a silly question from a 1st time mom...

So, what is the reason for having the babies sleep in the same room with you?

  • For me, when DD was little I was CONSTANTLY checking on her to make sure she was still breathing. Also, it was a lot easier when she woke up to feed her cause she was right there.

  • they say it lowers SIDS risk  =  i think has something to do with babies hearing you breathing and setting the same pattern...

but it's just easier when they fuss - not having to walk into another room.

We took it to another level with the bedside cosleepers- you don't even need to get out of bed when babies fuss ---- it's fabulous!!!

  • For me, it was convenience. Nice and easy when you are breastfeeding to just reach over and not have to get out of bed when they wake up to eat during all hours of the night.
  • we did not co-sleep but it was still nice having them in the same room at first. they eat every 3 hours so basically you feed for an hour (including changing, burping and putting them back down) and you get to sleep for two hour stretches.....if they both decide to sleep. the reason for having them in the same room, the least amount of steps to make all that happen the better. esp, when the decide to not sleep in between feedings. we moved them to their own room at about 7 or 8 weeks when they started sleeping longer stretches.
  • there are no silly questions for first time moms!! ask away!!

with ds it was just easier...we set up a little changing area and bottle station, complete with mini fridge in our room so we didn't have to go downstairs everytime we needed bottle stuff or to put away a bottle ds didn't finish.

the babies will be waking every 2-3 hours so it is just easier. And like another poster mentioned....it was closer for me to go check that he was still breathing :-P one night he slept for 5 hours straight and I woke in a panic but of course he was fine :-P

I think once they get here, you will probably suddenly want them as close to you as possible ;-)
