Ugh, mine haven't gotten any smaller - just a lot more droopy! Blech.

  • I am slowly weaning so I haven't been super uncomfortable yet.

  • They didn't start hurting until about a week after DS finished nursing, then lasted for 3 weeks.

ETA: DS was 13 months when he stopped.

  • A couple weeks.  Then, when I thought it was over, they randomly leaked for a day or two.

Mine are droopy and smaller.  I used to complain about my huge boobs all the time, but this isn't what I wanted.  I said it's like stuffing two empty sacs in a bra (sorry for the visual).

Anyway, we weaned pretty slowly too.  But I had some really bad engorgement initially.  DS drank a lot at his last feeding (I think he knew it was going to be the last time).  But for some reason, there was a lot of milk and it didn't completely empty them.

I pumped one last time two days later and got about 10 ounces.  Then that was it.  I thought it was probably stupid to pump, but I think I just needed to empty my breasts completely.   Well, it was a huge relief and then they never got super engorged again.

I used cabbage leaves in my bra for about a week.

I could still squeeze something out if I tried for about a month afterward.  But the let down feeling/pain went away about 2 weeks after I stopped BFing.

  • Mine never hurt or were uncomfortable. I weaned over 2 months or so (because I was so afraid of engorgement and pain, really). They didn't really get much smaller, but yeah, a bit droopy.
  • No pain or anything and it's been about 3 weeks.  Wasn't planning on weaning, but went on vacation and pumped once a day for three days and then came home and didn't nurse again.  That first morning when I realized DS wasn't asking to nurse I decided to wean (we were nursing 4-5 times a day until we left for vacation) I had DH run to the store for some sage and I took it three times a day for 2-3 days.  Not sure if it made a difference or not, but I heard it really helps with drying things up.
  • I had to leave DS for a family emergency so we had to quit sort of cold turkey. We were down to 4 nursing sessions in 24 hours or so, sometimes more never really less.

I was in agony for a solid week, and after almost 2 weeks, the engorgement finally ended and I felt ok.

I went from a C during nursing, to probably DD rectangular painful boulders while weaning, to most likely full A's.

the only thing that I think helped me dry up my milk was pseudophedrine (in sudafed).
