I saw one of these in person this weekend and love how 'small' it is. It takes up less room than my single stroller. We were talking to the girl that had it and she mentioned her youngest (3 months and sitting in the double attachment) was really a little young to be sitting back there. So what do you do for the first few months with your infant?? Then it says it can hold 2 toddlers...how does the toddler in the lower back seat do? Is it easy/hard to bend over and put the kid in the back seat?
ETA: also...the back seat has no shade...does the front seat provide enough shade for the kid in the back? What about your diaper bag?? Where do you put it?
It would be a BIG investment if we got this so I'm just trying to do my homework and I don't know anyone who has this stroller.
Re: Phil & Ted double stroller owners...come in please
To use the back seat the baby has to be old enough to hold their head up, same as a regular stroller. Prior to that, the toddler seat attaches to the front and the back part zips down into a bassinet. You can't use a car seat attachment if you're using it as a double.
They fight over the backseat, so no problem getting either of them to sit in it. The lack of a sun shade isn't too much of a problem. The front seat blocks a lot of sun, and then I put a good hat and sunscreen on whoever is back there. We don't live in a hot climate, though. It's not hard getting anyone into or out of that seat. You lose a lot of the basket when you're using it as a double. I can still fit my diaper bag in, but it's used as a footrest by the kid in back.
Even with the drawbacks, I wouldn't trade this stroller for any other. I see moms pushing those big bulky things and feel so sorry for them. Our P&T is lightweight, compact, turns on a dime, the air-filled tires are perfect for power-walks, and I couldn't get through the airport without it.
How do you do this??? Our instructions said it wasn't possible, but we tried, anyway. I couldn't figure out a way to get it to work.
Well, I don't know what model you have, so it might be different. We got ours back when all they made was the classic model, and they made a point of saying you couldn't use the carseat adapter and still have two kids ride in it. A friend of mine said she got hers to work, though, so I tried to rig mine up the way she told me and it still didn't work for me.
I absolutely LOVE our Phil & Ted (we got the Sport model). Just like you, it was a big investment for us but I wouldn't trade it for anything. We just said this weekend that it was the best baby product we've purchased for either one of our kids. I love how it's so streamline and folds really compact!
We didn't purchase the car seat adaptor (the stroller alone was already a big purchase and didn't want to buy anything that we would only use for a couple of months). Instead, we would use the basinet feature. Basically, the main seat folds all the way down and we would put DD (#2) in there laying down. We would put the double seat on top for DS (#1) to sit in. We recently put her in the lower back seat and she loves it. I haven't had a problem bending over to put her in the lower seat.
I haven't been able to see how it will be with shade (only used it indoors since it's 20 degrees here) but I don't think it will be a major problem. The only major flaw that I've found is for the diaper bag. There's really no good place to put it...I either wear it or put it underneath in the storage area. They do make a bag to attach to the stroller. I've heard of some people who have it but I haven't looked into it yet.
I would go and look at it in person if you get a chance. On the website, they list a bunch of stores who have it for you to test out! Let me know if you have any other questions!
I have the sport, so maybe that's why? I was going to get the classic but found a better deal on the sport.
I originally really wanted this stroller. But my friend has it and really didn't like the fact that there's absolutely no storage - and when you have two kids you're going to have lots of stuff. Her wheels went flat pretty often too.
The kicker for us was that the jump seat weight limit is only 30 lbs. DS is already 28.
I just bought the Baby Jogger City Select. I'm so excited about this stroller. It has so many different combinations. It's pricer than the P&T, but it should be worth it.
If you're looking for info on double strollers I'd suggest you check out the Two Under Two board - there's always posts about strollers over there.
