Anyone have textured walls?

image

Our home has textured drywall.  It was my one complaint when we bought the home, but everything else worked so I figured I could give in.  Then we tried to paint...

Has anyone had trouble putting on multiple coats? The people who built the house didn't paint a single room but we went through and did our own colors.  DD's room has been painted twice (we did the wrong color the first time) and now I want to paint it again, but DH is afraid the texture will start to fill in.

  • we did our bathroom three times.  no issues for us.

  • Yes and the paint is not thick enough to fill in the texture, I wouldn't think.  Its thin and even after having to put two coats most times, I doubt you could put enough on to fill it in...

  • We had walls like that in our last house.  When we painted DS's room we had to do several coats of one of the colors and we had no problem with the texture filling in.  And textured drywall (knockdown as its called) does suck.  I hope to never have it again.
  • we've painted textured walls several times, and we've never had any issue with the texture filling in.
  • We've painted and re-painted, the texture is fine. Get a really fluffy roller to use, it will cover better.
  • Hmmm maybe I can convince him. :)  He doesn't even want to paint the nursery but I am dying here. I told him that if he didn't I would do it while he was at work, lol

My brother had textured walls like that in his condo in Phoenix.  He painted w/o much problem, but I believe he did use an extra fluffy roller to fill in.  G/L!!

  • We have textured walls VERY similiar to those. The only room we had issues with coverage on was the bathroom but all other rooms took two coats just fine and had great coverage, it may be the type of paint your are using. I also agree with getting a fluffy roller for more absorption. Good luck!
  • We have those exact same walls. We did multiple coats on several rooms and no, the texture did not fill in. Though I wish it were that easy.
