I tutor for an hour every Monday while MIL or my mom watches DD. I meet the student at the library near my house, and I get paid very well ($60/hour).
I got another lead for two students (siblings) who needed a math tutor. I really only want to tutor on Mondays so I don't have to get MIL or my mom to come over more than once/week. The woman agreed to 90 minutes on Mondays, right after I finish with student #1, so I'm tutoring 2.5 hours every Monday now!
I LOVE teaching math, I'm getting paid more than what I was paid as a teacher, the jobs are close to home, and DD gets to see her grandmother every week. It's a win-win situation. I just had to AW! :-)
Re: I have to AW my exciting (very) part-time job news!
Awesome!!!
I used to be an elementary teacher, and it's hard to find tutoring jobs as an elementary teacher (although I did usually have one/year). My friend used to teach high school math, and she actually tutors about 10 kids each week. Whenever someone calls her with their elementary/middle school student, she passes them along to me. So I got lucky. :-) You could try posting on CL, but I'm not sure how successful that would be. Good luck!
That is so awesome! I would LOVE to do that! $60/hr? You go girl! I was an elem teacher for 5 years and I have thought about trying to find tutoring opportunities, but just haven't followed through with it.
For the other girls who were asking, a friend of mine does it and she recommended going to the local elem school and talking to the principal and seeing if you couldn't put a flyer up in the teacher's lounge. In Texas, it's more popular when it gets close to TAKS (our state test) time.
