which graco carseat is best? experienced moms please help

Sorry, I am sure this question gets asked a lot of times.

I am getting a graco carseat and a stroller frame for now.

Which of the carseats do you recommend- regular , snugride 32 or snugride 35?

What were your experiences?

thanks!

  • I don't know all of the differences.  They either didn't have those options when I was pregnant with DS, or I didn't pay attention.  We have the regular snugride.  It worked fine.  DS was out of it by 9 months, because of his height though.

I don't know if the 32 or 35 have anything to do with height, but that is something to consider.

  • Speaking for myself, these options weren't available 2 years ago.  I have a Snugride...I don't remember the exact pounds, etc, but the key to allowing for a bigger baby in the seat is, will it be worth it to you to keep them in the seat that long?  DS had outgrown the seat by 8 months because of height--not weight.  And--he was extremely heavy to carry around.  If you plan on keeping the seat in the car, then it may be worth it.  If you're expecting to use it as an infant carrier longer, you may feel that your arms/body doesn't want to.

Also--how are your and DH's frames?  I'm short waisted and only 5'4".  DH is 6'4" and has an extremely long torso.  No way to predict for us--but DS has a long torso as well.  He outgrew his Graco Comfortsport (which I don't recommend BTW) convertible seat rear facing right around 12 months and I would have preferred to keep him RFing longer.  A bigger overall seat for height is best for us rather than weight.

  • We are going with the Snugride 35 and the Metrolite stroller that matches. If you haven't noticed, the stroller frames are only $10 cheaper(here) than the matching stroller that the carseat can be snapped into. I'd rather spend the $10 and get an actual stroller that our son can use when he out grows the carseat.
  • We went with the Safe seat (sungride 32/35 they are all the same thing besides the weight limit).  I wanted to get 2 winters in the infant car seat, it has a  built in lock off and all the seats have a front adjust.  If you dont mind the car seat being out growen between 4-9 mos old then the sung ride is a great seat.  If you are using a lap and shoulder belt then you would have to use a locking clip.  Also just make sure it has a front adjust not a rear adjust.

My daughter was in the safe seat/sungride 32/sungride 35 untill 22-24 mos.

This!  We noticed the same exact thing.  This is the combination we are getting.

  • We're going with the Snugride 35 and the Metrolite stroller, too. The snugride 35 should last the longest and the Metrolite strollers are much lighter and easier to handle than the strollers in the travel system were for me.
  • I would get the regular Snugride and the stroller frame.  You will love this combo because it's so simple.

The main reason for the regular Snugride is simply a weight issue.  My son only weighs 16 lbs. right now and we're already looking for a different convertible car seat because I can hardly carry him in the car seat as it is right now.  I'm still doing it, but I can definitely tell a difference lately as to how hard it is.  I can't imagine having him in the Snugride until he's 32 or 35 lbs. and carrying him in that!

  • I have the Safeseat--now snugride 32.  DD was in it until she was 17 months old and grew out of it due to height not weight.

I would go with the bigger seat.

  • its def better to keep them in the infant seat as long as you can so id get the bigger one!! we have the snug ride 32 the down side is that its def bigger and heavier but i rather my child be safer!!

my sister has the regular snug ride and DS fits pretty tight in it already and he is only 4months!!!

people say yeah but you dont want to lug the heavy seat if thats the case you can just leave the seat in the car and take the child out!!
