Pregnant after a Loss

Ladies that had a missed miscarriage

If you feel like sharing your experience, when did you find out and what were the circumstances? I have a horrible feeling that I'm going to go to my next appointment and they won't find a heartbeat. I know the chances are very small but still.....

Re: Ladies that had a missed miscarriage

  • I was 13w4 days.... it was discovered at my 2nd ultrasound.  They just pulled up the screen and there was no heartbeat there.... We had just seen one one week before...:(

  • I should have been 8 weeks and 6 days, but baby only grew to 6 weeks and 6 days. at first they said the baby had a heartbeat , but was just measuring small and thought my dates could be off. But 2 days later I began to pass large clots and the rest is painful history.

  • My story is pretty similar.  I went for my first u/s at 7 wks, 4 days--very low heartbeat; I think like 30bpm.  OB said to wait it out a few days.  Returned at 7 wks, 6 days--no h/b.  He scheduled our D&C for the following day, at 8 weeks.  It was the scariest thing that I've ever experienced :(

  • I?ve had two.

The first one I went in for a normal exam around 9 weeks or so and the Dr. tried to find the heartbeat with the doppler. Nothing. Then did an ultrasound. Nothing.

The second time we got an early heartbeat, though a little slow around 7ish weeks. She convinced me it was slow because it had just started beating a few days prior so didn?t do another one to follow up. At 13 weeks we discovered there was no heartbeat or growth since around 8 weeks.

Just try to think postive thoughts. I know that?s easier said than done, but just try. I was scared sh?tless the same thing was going to happen to me this time around too, but the third time turned out to be a charm - so far. Today you are pregnant and love your baby. Don?t think anything is wrong until you have reason to. GL!

  • (((hugs))) I hope that your worry is for nothing.

I had several early appointments, and we saw the heartbeat at 6w2d.  My next appointment was at 9w5d and there was no longer a heartbeat, and it was clear that the fetus had stopped growing several weeks earlier.  I had no warning signs, of course now I'm always afraid of history repeating itself when I go in for an appointment.

  • I went in for my 1st ultrasound at 7 weeks, but only measured 4 weeks.  I came back 10 days later and measured 6 weeks and they saw a hb but it was very low, 86 bpm. 10 days later there was no longer a hb. :(

Thanks Katie. I'm really glad the third time was the charm.

  • I was 10w2d - I had seen the hb at 7weeks and it was fine.

I started having brown spotting the night before (10w1d) and went to the OB the next day and the bleeding was getting worse so I knew.

She did an u/s and baby only measured 7w1day.  I had a d&c that day.

Stay positive - chances are actually in your favor for your baby being just fine!

  • Hugs to you.  The fear is totally normal and isn't a sign that anything is wrong at all.

Mine was similar to PP's - went in at 8w4d, baby was only measuring 6w3d with no heartbeat.  Never had bleeding/spotting/cramping, never lost pregnancy symptoms.  So, yes, I will have the same fear at every ultrasound.

  • Hopefully, you'll have a reassuring appointment! My first missed m/c, I went for my 8-9wk appt and got an unexpected u/s. They found I was only at 6wk with an erratic hb. When I went back a week later, no change. They tracked it for 3 more wks until the hb finally ended and I had a d&c. The second one was completely missed. I had a great u/s at 6w4d, and went back for a 12wk appt, with horrible m/s in between, only to find growth had ended at 7wk, and we have no idea when the hb ended. RPL labwork didn't give us any answers, just bad luck; and so far we seem to be okay, using a doppler for reassurence. Keep in mind, these experiences are really quite rare even if you see them on this board often!

  • I hope you are wrong.

I had no idea. I was 13 weeks exactly and had seen the heartbeat at 8w5d. I had plenty of symptoms, no spotting, and no cramping. I went in for my NT scan and knew right away because of what baby looked like. There was no heartbeat.

    (((hugs)))

  • I was almost ten weeks when we found out at an u/s that there was no hb. It had stopped around 8 weeks. I had a little, little bit of brown spotting and that's why I had the u/s.

  • I found out around 11 weeks. Baby died around 9 weeks. Never had spotting or bleeding. Went in 3 or 4 days later for d & c.

They did not find a heartbeat on doppler. Went to the u/s room and saw our LO without a heartbeat.

  • full story in bump bio but long and short. Went in for my 11 week appointment did an U/S found baby had no heart beat and was measuring 9week. We had had a confirmed a low H/B at 7 weeks after no H/B was found at 6 weeks u/s (preformed because of spotting).

  • I was 12 weeks exactly. Went in for my NT scan and the doctor found no hb and no movement. He measured 11w5d, so it had just happened.
  • I had gotten pneumonia when I was about 7 weeks pg and after I was better, I had an u/s at 8 weeks to check on the baby since I had a pretty high fever for about 5 days, and luckily the baby looked fine. I went in for my 12 week and there was no hb and baby had stopped growing at 9 weeks. No spotting, cramping or anything. I will say I didn't have ANY m/s with that pg, and didn't even feel pg really. This time I am sick and tired almost everyday, so not sure if it was the pneumonia or bound to happen anyways. I know how you feel though, I have my second u/s on Wed and I will be 10 weeks and I am pretty nervous but trying to stay positive. All the best to you and your LO and I am sure everything will be just fine.

  • Kelleybean - I really hope you are wrong.  If you have no symptoms to go on besides intuition, then just try to think positively.  I had a missed m/c (baby measured 6w at 9w ultrasound and a week later they told me it wasn't viable).  Now I worry before every ultrasound, but it doesn't really do me any good.  If everything is going well, I would try not to think about the possibility of a missed m/c, because it is just that - a symptomless thing that you can't predict.  I hope everything works out for you and this is your sticky baby!

  • I was 11 weeks. Had a bit of brownish spotting on Friday, dr. put me on bed rest. Went in on Monday for an ultrasound at another location and they never contacted my dr., so I thought I was fine. Dr. called on Tuesday morning (11w) and told me there was no heartbeat (had seen one at 6w2d). Had D&C that day.

I am hoping you get very good news at the appointment and everything goes smoothly for you.

  • I found out at 11wks because I was just doing an u/s for "fun" at my work (I work at an outpatient imaging center and we do ob u/s all the time). The baby only measured at 9 wks and we didn't see a heartbeat. I called my dr but had to wait two days until my reg appt to se him. He confirmed with another u/s.

I had no idea my baby had died two weeks before I found out. Please don't be worried! I'm sure everything is fine... and if your that worried, call your dr and see if you can go in for a quick check. My dr ask me at my first appt this time, if I wanted to come in at 10 wks for another u/s to show me we made it passed where we did last time.

  • I found out at 14 weeks that baby stopped growing at 10w 5d.  We went in at 10 weeks and they did an early ultrasound to date it, everything measured and looked great.  Went back for my regular appointment at 14 weeks and they couldn't find the hb.  Did an ultrasound and sure enough the hb had stopped.  For three weeks my body continued to grow (ute was measuring 14w 5d) and produce hormones.  D&C was done two days later.

I had no idea anything was wrong.  As a matter of fact, I went ahead and shared with everyone at 12 weeks because I thought we were safe.  This time my midwife had me come in at 14 weeks just to do an ultrasound to ease my mind.  I was so thankful for that.

I hope your fears are wrong.  Is there a reason you are thinking this or is it just because you are scared?  Remember, today you are pregnant and love your baby.  Surround yourself with positive thoughts.  It's the best thing you can do right now.

  • At about 8wk3d I went to the bathroom at work and after I wiped, I checked the tp (because that's what we ALL do) and there was my worst fear...brown blood. I immediately and instinctively knew something was WRONG. I called OB right away and she basically said there wasn't really anything to do but just wait it out, bleeding can be normal. In my gut I knew so I demanded an ultrasound (used the whole 'my insurance will cover it") and got in the next day. DH and I were watching the screen, breath held, and I saw the sac...empty. Even though the tech couldn't say anything I knew. The baby never even made it past about 4 or 5 weeks which is when I found out. So I found out and went on another 3 weeks believing when there was nothing. :-(

But that pregnancy was different. I never felt attached, I was in such disbelief from the beginning, it was like I never really accepted it. This pregnancy has more symptoms and I have felt attached from the very moment I found out. I hope that means something with all of my heart.

If missed miscarriages are so rare why are there so many responses here? I know we are a population of JUST pregnant woman who have had a loss, but they don't seem any more rare than any other kind of pregnancy related loss.

  • Can I just tell you guys how wonderful you are? I don't have any reason to think anything is wrong...it's the fear talking. Thank you for sharing your stories and I'm so sorry for your losses. I will try my best to follow the mantra "today I am pregnant and I love my baby."

  • Yes try not to worry althought it is easier said then done. I had a missed m/c in Dec 08... I went in during Nov and LO was measuring 7w2d then I thought everything was going normal because over the next couple of week smy symptoms started going away then when I would have been about 12 weeks I measured at 7w4d. I had spotting the whole time and my Dr. had said it was because the baby was lying low in my ute. So i really have no idea why I had the m.c but my Dr. thinks its due to chromosomes and not the fact the baby was lying low...

With this pg I lost my symptoms around 8 weeks and some odd days and I was a wreck between appts but at my 12 w appt heard the heartbeat. I think the hardest part is getting through the weeks in between appts but just try and stay positive!
