So two of my friends gave birth yesterday- both had baby girls! But one of them was 36 weeks. That makes five friends that have had babies 35-36 weeks along. I was wondering if anyone has info on what the chances of that happening are? DH is going to England for his brother's wedding when I am 36 weeks and I am terrified. He is going to leave that Thursday and come back Monday but still- I am so afraid. I think I would feel better and when I try to find something all I come up with is premie stats. I really just want to know statistically speaking what are the chances of going into labor then?

Momma to Ms. C age 16 months and Mr. C age 3 months!
Re: Statistics on giving birth at 36 weeks?
It's very common for a first time mom to go past her EDD, not early (especially NOT 36 weeks.)
Did your friends have any complications that would cause them to deliver early?
If you've had a healthy pregnancy thus far, your chances are very slim.

Nope- and all of these women it was their first pregnancies- so you can sorta understand why I am thinking of chaining him to a chair. I know most women go over- my best friend had to be enduced at 41w4days and one other friend went in naturally at 41w exactly.
I dont know any statistics but my mom had me at 37 weeks and my sister at 36 weeks. She didnt have any previous problems.
38-42 is "normal" as 95% of births occur during this time period. If you took Intro statistics it is a bell curve centered at 40.
At 36 the babies are likely to be fine. Think of it this way, when a mother is having mulitples they quite frequently do a c-section at 35 weeks to get them out and so one baby at 36 weeks can't be bad :-) A friend of mine had her son at 34 or 35 weeks. He was in NICU for 1-2 weeks but then he came home and is A-okay.
I had been told at prenatal class that most first time mom's deliver after 40 weeks. That being said, one of the girls in my class had to leave early because she delivered at 34 weeks. Her water broke and she went into labour.
Last week on Oprah a woman delivered at 26 weeks. But you can't worry to much about those situations. If you DH is out of town for 4 days, you have to decide if both of you are okay with the possibility that you go into labour. I statistically it isn't likely. But I would ask your Dr. he/she will be able to check you for any signs of labour before your husband leaves. It's not a guarantee, but it might help you both sleep better.
