Newbie here...need some advice...

Are there any recommendations of RE's or OB/GYN's that specialize in infertility?

Basically my story is I havent had normal on time cycles since November 2008.  I went to my OB last year and she took some blood and did some hormone level tests but said everything was ok, started me on Metformin in April.  I never had a full cycle, just spotting here and there.  Then in late August I had my annual and she started me on Clomid.  I had my first dose in September and in late September I had the worst period I have ever had in my life.  Bad cramping, very fatigued, heavy heavy flow. I took a second round of Clomid at the beginning of October and had no activity at all from it.  I decided I was going to stop taking all the medication and just focus on weight loss since I think that is MOST of my problem.  (I have been pregnant before but that was 6 years ago and I am now almost 100 lbs heavier)  I just had my first cycle since September and it was pretty light the whole time but it lasted for a full 7 days with light cramping in the beginning.  Im pretty sure Im going to see how things go for the next few months...if I start having a regular cycle or not.  If not Im considering going further with professional help because April will be a year.  Im not convinced my OB did everything "correct" by just putting me on meds even though I wasnt having a period.  No sonograms were done, no attempt to MAKE me start.

Sorry for the lengthy message.  I just feel like a background would be easier for everyone to see where I am coming from.

 Any advice/recommendation are appreciated! Thanks!

  • It depends on where you live!  I used Dr. James Douglas in Plano for my IVF.

    Good luck!!

  • I see Dr. Jane Nokleberg at Walnut Hill OB/Gyn. She has seen me through two pregnancies and now infertility.

she was able to help get me pregnant too, she is really great.  your previous doctor should have never put you on clomid, unmonitored, but unfortunately it's very common among ob's who don't know what they are doing.  Dr. Nokleberg will absolutely monitor you while you are on the clomid to see if it's working or not.  plus if you don't like the side effects w/clomid you can also try femara.  she also knows when to refer so you don't have to worry about getting a referral to an RE if needed.

if your insurance covers it i would go straight to an RE but if not it's good to start w/an ob where OOP costs will be lower. good luck.
