Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How many short sleeve/long sleeve bodysuits should you have?

Baby is due in June. Do you put only short sleeve bodysuits on registry and then at 6 months change to the long sleeve ones or will I want long sleeve ones during the summer?

Re: How many short sleeve/long sleeve bodysuits should you have?

  • we use both. kind of depends for us what she is wearing to bed that night. if she is in a sleep sack- we use a long sleeve. If she is/was swaddled we would use a  short sleeve.

  • If it is pretty hot inside your house during the summer I'd skip the long sleeves until winter and just use a sweater or a blanket as needed during the summer.  I have very few long sleeved onesies even now because I just use jackets and blankets when we are out and about.

    HTH!

  • Most women (including me) get sweats from hormones after you have the baby.  That said, DH and I decided to keep the house cool and ended up keeping LO in a long-sleeved onesie and socks all summer (he was born July 4th).  I'd say have some of each.  Keep in mind you won't leave the house a ton the first several weeks.
  • There is no "easy" answer to this as it is really personal preference.  During the summer, DD wears onesies to sleep so they are short sleeve.  In the winter, she wears both long and short sleeved.  I often layer her so she will have a short sleeve onesie under a long sleeve shirt.  Other times, I will put a long sleeve onesie under a short sleeve shirt.  Sorry that doesn't help give you a number.
  • I wouldn't put clothes on your registry.  People will get you plenty.

DS was a June baby.  We liked having both short sleeve onesies and footed sleepers though.

Outdoors you'll want short sleeve.  The air in our house made it cold so he wore a lot of sleepers inside.

DS was never the type to go through a lot of outfits in one day due to spit-up/blow-outs, so for us it was about how often we wanted to do laundry.  I think 10 onesies and 5-10 sleepers is a good amount, but keep tags on half of them.  DS only wore newborn for a little over a week due to length.

DS slowed down around 5 months, but he didn't wear one size very long before that.  Don't buy too much because the seasons/sizes may not match up.

  • Having had a June baby and staying in an air conditoned house all summer, we used a short sleeve onsie and footed zipper sleepers every day for months. I think two packs of each size (about 10 each of newborn, 0-3, 3-6, 6-9) will hold you over. We were not given a lot of clothes for our shower/after the baby was born and the stuff we were given was more "dressy" instead of the day-to-day stuff so I was constantly out at the store buying onsies and sleepers to catch up with his growth.

That may seem like a lot, but if you have a diaper blow out, and need to completely throw away the onsie or you don't feel like doing laundry every few days, that will buy about a week.

    Good luck to you!
