When to move up in diaper sizes?

When did you know to move up a size in diapers?

Currently we use size 1 but I was looking at the weight guidelines...size 1 is 10-14, but size 2 is 12-18. We're at about 12 pounds now - how do you know if/when to go up a size? What's the fit difference between sizes?

Re: When to move up in diaper sizes?

  • you would move up in a size when it seems like they no longer fit or are getting tight, ie: the tabs don't really go that far towards the belly button, the diaper sits low on the belly, the poops are getting higher and higher up the back of the diaper, or if you are having frequent blowouts or pee accidents.

DS is 12.5 lbs, and after we finish the current pack of size 1's we're moving to 2's. I had a couple of 2's that were given to me and they fit him much better and go up higher above his bum crack so they will offer more protection

  • We generally ignore the weight guidelines and go by how the diaper is actually fitting on DS.  We moved out of 1s "early" because they were no longer meeting up on the side and we were having blowouts with every poopy diaper.  We're moving into 3s right now for the same reason.  DS is very long and needs a longer rise in his diaper.
  • DS is 13 lbs and we are still using size 1 because we have so many of them but as soon as those are gone we are going to size 2.  Size one is getting snug and we have had a few poop blowouts!!
  • Thanks - we've had a lot more problems with the size 1's than we did we the newborn dipes so I think I'll buy 2's to use after we use up the size 1's.

  • I found a great in-between size at Target--Pampers Baby Dry in the huge value box (228 dipes) for $35.99.  The weight is for "up to 15 pounds".
