Suppository and still no poop

Has anyone had this problem? I'm starting to freak out because we are out of town and my poor DS is constipated. We gave him a glycerin suppository per Dr. instructions and still no poop after an hour. I'm starting to kind of freak out because he is straining but STILL nothing. What do I do??? and of course its a saturday night and the doc isnt open tomorrow... HELP!

Re: Suppository and still no poop

  • Maybe try some juice mixed with water. I have heard pear or prune juice really do the trick.

  • This happened to us a few months ago.  Our pedi said if there isn't poop right there ready to come out many times the suppository won't work.

Is your baby bf or ff?  Our pedi said for bf babies over 2 months old going up to 7 days isn't abnormal.  We gave her a little bit of apple juice in every bottle for a day or 2 and she finally went.  She's been fine since then. GL!

  • have you tried prunes? They worked for DD. Also my pedi told us to work the suppository in and out a few times and sort of "massage" the rectum to help it loosen up. This only works if the poop is ready to come out though.  Good Luck and don't worry.

  • I had no luck at all with suppositories, have you tried the good old thermometer trick?  My pedi said to use qtip, it didn't work but the thermometer worked really well!!!  Good luck.
