In hindsight, we should have just gotten the 8 oz bottles to begin with, but when we brought her home from the NICU she was so small we started with the 2 oz bottles. Makes absolutely no difference, because the only part that really had any effect on her was the nipple, not the bottle size, but it seemed right.
It EP so I use more than normal. I could getaway with 15-20 but have about 25 so I'm not washing bottles 24/7. I had to switch to the big bottles at 2 months so I wouldn't buy many of those is any at all.
ETA: I meant to not say buy many of the small ones if any.
i breast feed and got the platex nursers which sophia really has liked I got 4- 4oz and 4-10oz and like pp have said i probably should have just got the larger ones. so far we have not needed more than that but i am only using about 1-2 bottles for her a day and i breast feed her the rest of the time. Although you could get away with just getting 8oz bottles and only putting 2-4 oz in them in the beginning, I liked having the 4 oz bottles those first few months and then moving up to the 8oz once DS was eating more then 4 oz bottles.
I had tried Avent but felt they leaked a lot and have been very happy with Dr. Browns. We had 5 of each bottles.
We have a cupboard full of 3.5oz bottles... unfortunately DD never took a bottle. I would suggest getting a few of each but keep them packaged so you can return.
I BF and have only ever used 5 oz bottles. I have 8; 4 at home feeding DS and 4 with me at work that I pump into. And I use the Madela bottles, so I pump directly into them and then he eats directly out of the same bottle.

I recommend just getting all 8 oz bottles.
I agree with this. If you want to save money, you really don't need the smaller ones.

Re: Last registry question-How many bottles do you need and what sizes?

It depends on if you're BF or not (BF = less bottles).
We just bought the starter pack of Dr. Brown's (retails for about $50), that has been all we need.
we used 4 9 oz and 4 4 oz bottles (avent), and its been fine. I would rather wash then have a ton of bottles taking up space..
my friend has the medela ones for her pump, and she has a ton of them bc she doesn't like to wash them..
