Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Please recommend your carseat

I am looking for a carseat that will take my son from 9 months up through booster seat.  First and foremost, I am looking for safety.   I have a smaller size car, so I don't want anything that is too huge.  Please give me your recommendation so I can narrow down some choices before I do some researching of my own!  Thanks!

  • We have the Britax Advocate CS.  I really like it, and it is far easier to manuver than her infant seat was!

  • I have the Britax Marathon, but almost got the Radian 80. The marathon is pretty big.

I got a great deal on one for my DS just 2 weeks ago at this website...

  • I have the First Years True Fit.  We have a small 2 door car.  This seat is big, but does work in the middle.  It RF until 35lbs and FF until 65lbs.  I LOVE this seat, so does DS, he looks so comfy in it, plus it is one of the top rated convertible car seats.

  • We have a Marathon and a Graco myride65.  You mean you want a seat that will last until you need to buy a booster right?  Because they make 3 in 1s that are rear facing, front facing and boosters but they are not generally recommended.  Also, if you plan to ERF, we do, you may end up needing a  second convertible anyway because of the way your LO grows.

Just wondering... why aren't the 3 in 1s recommended?  I have never heard that before, but then again, I am just starting my search.   I would think that would be the most cost effective way, but is it not safe?

They can be cheaper but they tend not to fit babies our LOs' ages very well.  So people end up not liking them and buy a convertible anyway.  Also - in some states, TX is one, kids have to be in a booster for far longer than the life of that seat.  Were we to buy a 3 in 1 now it would expire long before DD's booster days were over and we'd have to buy a new one anyway.   I've read that the Graco Nautilus is well liked, it's a 3 in 1, but usually just for the foward facing and booster qualities, not it's RF qualities.  A really great source of info are the forums on carseat.org.  GL!

  • I just installed the Britax Diplomat today.  I have a smaller car and needed something a little compact.  It seems pretty good so far.  DS likes it, too.

Actually the Graco Nautilus doesn't rear face. We got one for DD when we gave her Marathon to DS.

I know there are now better seats out there, but we really like our Marathon. It rear faces to 35 lbs and forward faces to 65 lbs. But usually what is more important than the weight limits are the height limits so I'd recommend getting a seat with as high of a shell as you can that will still work with your car. We have a Honda Civic Hybrid which is fairly small (smaller than a standard Civic) and have no problem with the Marathon rear facing behind the passenger seat.

  • Evenflo Symphony 65...not as big as it looks.  We like it.
