Keeping 17m off my 36w belly?

How have the rest of you coped in late pregnancy with a toddler that wants to be held and near mom? She does good at playing independently, but also really likes sitting on my lap and doing things. Unfortunately this turns into her wanting to change positions and elbowing me in the belly as well as trying to sit on top of my belly. And when she's flailing around having a tantrum and needs to be held it is even worse!

Or is your best advice to just suck it up for the next 4ish weeks?

  • I was put on modified bedrest at 36 weeks, so I'm not supposed to be lifting DD (although the reality is that I do, just not as much as I did before).  But unless there is a specific problem that your doc is worried about, I wouldn't sweat it - there's lots of amniotic fluid for cushioning.
  • unless you have a lifting restriction, I would suck it up, and love on your baby! S/he will have their world rocked in 4 short weeks, and need all the mommy time they can get until then.
  • I let Ds crawl all over me...
  • I just let DD sit in my lap and try to re-direct her if she starts getting too physical (like trying to "ride" my belly).  Last night she was crawling up my back and pulling my hair to play "horsey".  It was kinda cute and painful, all at the same time!
  • The only things I stop my two year old from doing are hitting my belly (becuase he knows his sister is in there) and really digging his elbows in - but that is more becuase it hurts me than any worry about the baby. She's pretty well protected in there. He's over 30 lbs and while I get tired carrying him around its not really a big deal - I think the bigger problem will be when my belly gets too big for him to actually fit on my lap!
  • I carry DD (22m old) all the time, and I let her crawl all over me sit on me etc.  I'd think unless your OB has given you restrictions I wouldn't worry about it.
