We are going to Orlando in April..Aubrey will barely be 6 months old. We are planning on breaking it up into a two day drive each way but still she has never went any further than an hour and a half so far. I mainly worry about her getting tired of the car seat. I know to stop several times, but do ya'll have any other tips?
I wish we were flying but it's not an option this time
Re: Have any of ya'll ever traveled by car for 12 hours with a 6 month old?
We just made a trip with Payton that usually takes us 9 hours and ended up taking 12 hours (actually more than that b/c we had a flat that needed repairing and had to stay overnight).
I would make sure you add in lots of time for stops -- feeding and diaper changes take us about 30-45 minutes per stop -- and breaking it up into two days is super smart. We've been on 3 major road trips with Payton and her tolerance level where she is in a really good mood is about 6-7 hours. Anything over that and she starts to just fuss/whine and have a meltdown.
Sorry, I don't have any tips as I haven't done it before, however I'll put this out there. Is it an option to travel later in the evening, like what would be her normal bed time?
And then maybe do the second leg in the wee hours of the morning, close to when she's normally waking or at her happiest (like 5 - 6 am, but I don't know what that means for Aubrey.)
We went to Orlando for Christmas and that drive usually takes 6 hours. (FYI she was almost 6 months at the time) Going down she did great. We planned it for late evening and only stopped once. Coming back was not so great. We stopped tons of times and it took us almost 9 hours to get home. I sat in the backseat with her to keep her busy (I also have a DVD player back there, so I enjoyed myself!) I swear I took every single toy she owns to keep her busy and had about 20 paci's in every location in the car.
Are you going to Disney? Let me know if you need any more help!
