So overwhelmed re: strollers

I went to Babies R Us today for the first time to start looking at things. I'm particularly overwhelmed with strollers. I'm torn between the travel system and snap 'n go. If you went with the travel system, which did you/will you get? I started to lean towards the Chicco Cortina but then read some bad reviews. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

We got the Chicco travel system. The carseat is #1 rated by Consumer Reports, and I noted that travel systems tend to be rated higher in safety than other strollers. We don't plan to use the stroller ALL THE TIME, so I don't mind if it's a little heavy. I do plan to get a lightweight stroller later.

I felt the same way when I was pg w/ DD. I just didn't know where to start b/c I didn't know how I'd really use a stroller. Here is what I did and what I learned....

- I decided to forgo the travel system as it was very bulky and I wasn't sure I'd want a huge stroller. I got the snap n go and LOVED it. I also ended up wearing DD a lot in the Bjorn and then later the Ergo.

- When DD was 5 or 6 months we bought a larger umbrella stroller b/c I found I was going on walks around the neighborhood and out to the mall. We really liked it b/c it was pretty compact, fully reclined and it had good features.

- When DD was about a year, I bought a 2nd hand jogging stroller, which I had a lot of problems with, so then I ended up buying a fixed front wheel jogging stroller which I use a lot to jog with.

- We also bought a super cheap light umbrella stroller when DD was a year b/c we moved to Europe and we needed something tiny which was good.

If I had to do it over again (and I continued to live in the states) I would have still gone with the snap n' go, no question about it. Then, I would have just bought a nice jogging stroller like a BOB or Phill and Ted that could be a jogging stroller and "everyday" stroller.

Sorry so long, but I know it's a lot to think of.

In the end, I vote for buy the snap n go and wait until later to decide how you'll really use a stroller.

I honestly have about 5 friends that have the Chicco Cortina and they all absolutely love it. I actually regret going with the Graco Metrolite I got with DS. It looks really worn and faded after 2 years, my SIL's Cortina is 3 years old and on baby #2 and looks brand new. I think a lot has to do with the type of use your stroller is going to get. I personally didn't want to have to buy another stroller when DS outgrew his infant carrier- which was at 9mo. because he was a very tall little guy- so I didn't buy a snap and go.

We did not go with the travel system because the pattern we want doesn't come in it. We bought this car seat:

And will get this stroller:

And essentially make our own travel system.

Did you get a stroller frame for the infant car seat? I've thought about doing something similar to this..

I'm glad you asked this. I walked through the car seat and stroller aisles in Target today and don't even know where to begin. Let me know what you decide!

We got the Chicco Cortina system (w/ the Chicco Keyfit 30 infant seat).

We went back and forth for a while, b/c I really want a nice jogging stroller eventually. However, it wouldn't really have saved us that much to get the seat and a snap n' go (about $60). Usually you can find good deals on the travel system combo, but not so much on the individual pieces. We found ours on Amazon for $250 total.

We debated between the Britax, Chicco and Graco. We utimately got the Chicco b/c it was the easiest to use (Britax was a pain in the but, IMO), and had the best safety ratings.

I felt exactly the same way, but I finally made a decision and intend to stick to it. I find that no matter what stroller you're looking at you will find a bad review or someone out there who will tell you it's not the right one. We're getting the snap n' go to use with the Chicco Keyfit in the beginning and the Chicco Cortina which Baby Bargains really likes. We tried it out and liked it as well. I like the adjustable handles and it really doesn't seem as huge as some of the other travel systems. And the price is right! I really want the Chicco Keyfit as it is higher rated than the Graco Snugride by Consumer Reports by quite a bit. Safety is my #1 concern. I know it's heavier than the Gracos, but I figure we'll make do. I also know later on we are going to have to get a lightweight stroller, but I figure no matter what we do we will go through at least 2-3 strollers. It's such a hard decision and every time we went to a store to check them out someone would give us a different opinion. I think this will work for us at least for a while and if it doesn't, oh well, we're out a couple hundred $$. That's life I guess.

We registered for the Chicco Cortina travel system. I agree, it was overwhelming looking at all of them. We went with the Chicco based on the safety ratings and the fact that a lof of folks on this board seemed to like it a lot. There's no way to tell what to expect!

I have Chicco cortina and love it. It really took a beating with DD and still looks good. I even used to take it to the pool where she would sit in it wet...and nap in it. I was happy with the travel system. I did not think it was cumbersome or too heavy and I am still using it 27 wks pg. I did buy the Chicco umbrella stroller and have used it maybe once...don't really like it. I bought a jobber...InStep I think for good price and have used that quite a bit...when I used to jog! Good luck, I know these decisions are hard. The only complaint I have with the Chicco infant seat is that it is not compatible with most of the Double strollers...now that I am in the market for one of those. Graco seems to be a safe bet for that. Although supposedly Chicco is coming out with a tandem this spring...but it will be 300$ which is a bit much!
