Sunday, February 7th, 38 weeks exactly - I was at home relaxing on the couch which had lately been a struggle to get in and out of. It was then that I wiggle myself around to get out of the couch and much to my surprise, POP, GUSH, there went my water. I screamed for DH who was downstairs. I called the doc and they said to come on in. (our bags were not even packed yet, luckily baby's was)
It just kept leaking, and leaking, it was not doubt my water.
Once at the hospital they took me straight to my room. I changed into a gown and was put into bed. Because I Was GBS positive and my water had broke, the first order of business was to get my IV started with the appropriate antibiotics. Well, my veins didn't want to cooperate. It took three nurses and over an hour to get an the IV port in (and I have the bruises all over my arms to prove it. Ouch!) Doc then came to check my progress to find that baby was not engaged. He went for the ultrasound machine and it was then found that baby was not even head down. She wasn't breech but sideways. It was then explained that at this point a C-Section deemed to be the most sensible due to position of baby and GBS positive status, water breaking, etc. Not what I wanted to here, but with the support and reassurance of DH and the nurses, I came to accept the fact. The doctor left to check the schedule and determine a time for the C -Section. He came back and said that in a half hour we would be ready to roll. What? It was all happening so fast. I then began to be prepped for the C- Section and was soon whisked away to the operating room.
I was deathly afraid of the spinal anesthesia, but thanks to a quick, outgoing and humorous anesthesiologist, it wasn't so bad after all. The worst part of it for me was the numb, dull feeling of my lower body. I couldn't stand it. However, Baby Taylor Grace was then born and all of those things no longer matter. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 5 oz., 20 inches long. Scored a 9 and a 10 on the Apgars. After the baby was cleaned off and brought to DH, I started to freak out. I kept asking the nurse how much longer, the stitching up seemed to be taking forever. She ended up giving me some additional meds that put me out for a temporary time period. DH said I started snoring and the nurse had to hold my head up. (Oh my, just a little operating room humor.)
After three nights in the hospital for recovery, we headed home in the middle of a blizzard. Nothing was stopping us, we were so anxious to get home. Things are going rather well; the breast feeding is getting easier and I really love it. I am working with a lactation consultant, who has been wonderful and has provided the confidence to keep going when things get tough. Recovery from the C-Section hasnt been too bad. I am just really ready to get the staples removed on Tuesday, I think I will feel much better then.
I now fully understand when people explain the love of a child and how quickly it overcomes you, I am in love with my daughter, she is amazing and sweet, and by far the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. I'll try to attempt a PIP.....
