Tear and stitches question...

How long after you gave birth did your tear hurt when you peed? I have an internal 1st degree perineal tear and a pretty bad labia tear. The one that hurts is the perineal. The nurse said it would hurt about a week, but the pain is still pretty intense. My DH says that it's prob because my pee in more consintrated due to BFing and pumping. ??

Re: Tear and stitches question...

  • Mine still stings pretty bad sometimes, but I do remember it getting a lot better around 2 weeks for me.

  • My tear hurt for weeks. I would say I think it was at least 3. It still itches or stings sometimes. I have no idea if this is normal but I guess I'll find out at my PP appt.

  • Use the peri bottle they gave you and spray while you pee, it'll help dilute your pee so it won't hurt as badly.

    Good luck!

  • mine hurt for 3 weeks, probably closer to 4.

to make it sting less there are 2 things you can do.

1, use your squirt bottle and squirt yourself while you are peeing to dilute it

or 2, lean forward while you pee, almost leaning on your knees. this will make your pee go straight into the toilet and not drip down to your perennial area.

  • With my first - I was in pain a good 4-6 weeks.  I had a 3rd degree tear and a LOT of stiches.  With my 2nd only a week or two.

  • I had two first degree tears, one was on the side and it hurt really bad when I sat down. I am breastfeeding also, but the tears didn't hurt any worse when I went to the bathroom.
  • Mine hurt for a good couple weeks, every now and then I still get random pains when I go to the bathroom.

The peri bottle was my friend at first, it diluted the pee so it wouldn't burn. Or as pp suggested - try leaning forward some so it doesn't run down on your perineal area.

  • I think I had a 2nd degree tear. ?It doesn't hurt too badly, but it does sting sometimes when I pee, even when I use the bottle. ?I delivered my son a little over a week ago. ?
