Vent: UPS keeps delivering dresser when I'm at work...

They keep trying to deliver the baby's dresser during the day while I'm at work, and it needs a signature. Don't they get the hint that people work full-time?

I tried calling, but can't get a direct number to the customer center that is delivering it. I have a feeling I'm going to have to end up going there to pick it up. I guess if they deliver today while I'm gone, I'll write them a nice note asking them to deliver it after 5:30 when I'm actually home...?

  • You can try and write them a note, but unfortunately, I don't think it works that way. It's just and address on their route, I wouldn't think they would change their route for that day based on one delivery. Can you sign something to have them leave it if you are gone?

  • Yeah, it's frustrating, but they don't work around your schedule...

  • Not to burst your bubble but UPS isn't going to change their schedule for you...you should change yours for them.  And aren't they leaving a note you can sign to authorize them  to leave it?

Not sure...I'll have to just ask them what to do I guess. They are just going to keep wasting their time trying to deliver at the times they have been. It's a pain I can't call the center directly and talk to someone.

  • You can leave a note, but I would be surprised if it made a difference.  Yes, people work full-time, but you need to realize that UPS is a job too.  The drivers don't work 24/7 and they like to work during "normal" business hours.

I'd either pick it up, or call to see if you can have the address changed to one where you know someone can sign for it.  I did that with a package and it was really easy.

  • I am sure he is more than aware that people work full time as most people who work for delivery companies work ridiculously long hours.

They have a schedule and a route to follow. Could you imagine how late into the night these people would have to work if they had to return to each home where the person wasn't there for the first drop just to get a signature. You want the delivery man to go completely off his schedule and out of his way to accommodate one person who may or may not be there when he arrives? How is he to know you get home at 5:30?

  • I believe they only try to leave it with you 3 times, then it will go to their local office where you'll have to go and pick it up.

No bubble bursted. I don't really expect them to change their schedule, but I can't exactly leave work just because I have a package coming, you know?

They left a missed delivery note, but there didn't appear a spot for me to just sign and have them leave it. After checking the back of it, I see that I can sign for it and have them leave it. So yes, by my stupidity, I guess they can just leave it there if I sign the paper. Embarrassed

Yes, I get it. I just feel bad that they are wasting their time trying to deliver when everyday it will be the same story. I'm not expecting them to go out of their way for me, and maybe that's not the way I came across, but I wanted to find a resolution to the problem. It was just a silly vent, and I finally found the spot where I'm supposed to sign if I want them to just leave it there.

  • Sometimes you are able to leave a note for them asking them to drop it off sans-signature.  There should even be an option for that on the little sticky they leave on your door.
  • You could write them a note. Actually, DH and I were waiting on some very important paperwork for the closing of our house, and we got a thing taped to our box saying they tried to deliver but nobody was home, etc... I signed on the line on the paper they had left me, and the next day the paperwork was waiting at our door. I guess as long as they got their signature we didn't actually have to be there.
