Since this gets asked a lot, I thought I'd share some info (reposting from below). How to get your child into modeling...
Some tips and info-
Look up local agents in your area on google, or phone book. s Contact them and ask if they represent infants/children, if so what their procedure is for joining the agency. A lot of times they will only allow you to send in photos, if you can get an interview jump on it, and keep calling trying to do so. Typically, if they're taking new clients, they'll have you come interview, take some still photos, etc. and go from there. IF they think your child is marketable they'll invite you to either meet with a higher representative or they'll have you sign contracts. If they tell you that your child needs classes or professional photos or anything else that requires even 1 dollar down, leave and go on to the next one. A legitimate agency will NEVER require money up front not even for pictures if they think you are worth it.
Other than that keep an eye out for open calls at local agencies, this is a cattle call where a billion people get run through, think of it like the American Idol auditions. If you're good enough you get a call back, if not then you weren't what they're looking for but try and try again, their needs change throughout the year.
An open call is less personal, faster (in terms of meeting with key people, but you'll spend all day waiting), but it gives you a good opportunity to "mass advertise" your child.
In my experience, personal interviews rather than open calls are more beneficial.
Stay away from places like Barbizon and John Casablanca, they're 100% class oriented ($$$)
Also keep in mind your location, there are very minimal modeling opportunities outside of LA or NY, then maybe Dallas and Chicago. IF your child is worth it and they offer you an opportunity to join an elite agency you will have to decide whether relocating is an option for you or not.
Last bit of advice, keep in mind that your child is a baby.... schedule interviews and castings around their "happy times" not during nap time. If you're attending an open call it can literally last all day long so be prepared.
The general criteria for booking infants is their personality, if they're having a complete meltdown due to no nap it's not going to go over very well. I suggest bringing video of your child's personality for the reps to see, it certainly can't hurt your chances.
The agencies will tell you what to bring to your interview or open call. Usually just a portfolio if you have one, if not bring about 5 or 6 photos of your child, happy faces, sleeping, black and white, and color. Even if they tell you NOT to bring anything with you, bring these anyway, you never know what will happen during your interview.
So anyway just some things to keep in mind. HIH!!

FYI - I didn't make my baby modeling post to call you out, FA - I just seriously don't comprehend why anyone would want to get their child mixed up in such a thing.

Thank you for providing this information farrellashleigh; it's very interesting and informative.I always wondered about the adorable babies I see in ads, like how they got there, ect. You were just trying to be helpful and I appreciate that!
Oh I didn't think you were addressing me specifically, and I agree the whole baby modeling thing isn't for everyone. It certainly has the potential to be a very baaad thing, but I also believe there are a lot of positive things that could come of it too. It all depends on the parents, they can choose to take it to a bad place or to keep it a lighthearted positive experience. To each their own.
And I don't understand my hater club so I can't help you out on that one, apparently everything I have to say is offensive so whatever. I'm the token scapegoat of their boredom.

well thanks! I could post about socks, skittles, or tree houses and they'd find something offensive about it. It reminds me of my older brother picking on me... and the classic parent lecture "if you just ignore him he'll stop antagonizing you"... I guess I'm going to have to try harder at that one.

So if it had been a post on how to make your own baby food would it have received the same flak?? Or how about some insight into home renovations?? Or how about how to work from home?? Would those all be considered awish....because I could offer a lot of advice on all of those topics. I'm going with a YES because it would've been posted by ME... Again, I was trying to be helpful since I had seen the question asked a lot, just like I have posted about vaccine information in the past when there were a ton of posts about vaccines. It's no different, the only difference is that all of these women have found someone to prey on and get their jollies from doing so. Awesome!

FA, while I don't really think modeling is our thing (DD is beautiful for sure but I don't need others telling me that!) you know how these boards are. Pack mentality, one person makes a comment and the whole group comes out in numbers. It amazes me how grown women with children can be so ignorant. And have way too much time on their hands! I think you are a sweet person from what I can see. Who cares what internet strangers say??
