Hey Ladies, I have posted over here a few times and I have been lurking ever since I got put on strict hospital bedrest--I am 34ws pg w/ my 1st and have been in the hospital on bedrest for going on 6 weeks now due to IUGR (they have no idea why he is growth restricted as I have no other issues)...my dr's just told me today that they have scheduled me for induction for next tues. and I am freaking out just a little, while I will be 35 weeks 0 days next tues. my LO is measuring really small (he was 2lbs 12oz at my last u/s) They will be doing another growth u/s that day to check his size before they induce (if he has somehow gotten up to the 10th percentile they wont induce but that would mean he would have had to grow 1lb 10oz in 2 weeks...which lets be real, isnt gunna happen)
I guess I'm just wondering if there was anything you wish you had done/could have done to prepare yourself for what was coming? We have already had the NICU tour twice and talked w/ the neonatologist, but I still feel like theres something more I should be doing to prepare myself...
Re: induction scheduled
First- congrats! You are doing a great job cooking that baby!
I'm not sure there really is anything you can do. I would try to arrange with friends and family to make sure you can have people drive you to the NICU in case of a c-section. I would also prepare meals, but since you are on hospital bedrest maybe ask a friend or relative to do a little, since coming home will probably be a bit of a shock.
The only other thing I wish we had done was take pictures daily or weekly of Cooper next to a relative object. We never did this, and now I can't remember how tiny he was!
Good luck! Please keep us updated and I will be praying for you on Tuesday!
Congrats
I agree with having people be prepared with food. This was a great help to us when lo was in the nicu.
I don't think anything really prepares you for such a tiny baby. But now I can't really remember how small she was or what that was like (she was 2lb 5 oz)
You may want to order some micro preemie clothes if your nicu allows them. E could wear clothes as soon as her ivs were out (one week for us). I loved the early birds clothes.
Also you may want to have some recieving blankets for the isolette that made it so much more homey!
Oo I agree about recieving blankets! We actually just bought a bunch of flannel that I had MIL finish for us, since I didn't really find a lot of blankets I loved.
Also, if you have a photographer friend, have them lined up to come do pics in the NICU- I love our pro NICU pics!
thanks for the great suggestions! ive been sleeping w/ a snoedel that the NICU gave me and another blanket so little buddy can have something that smells like me from the get go--as excited as I am to know I will be leaving the hospital soon I already get choked up thinking about leaving my little bird all by himself
There is one bumpie who has a link on her blog that has typical NICU questions.....I wish I had seen it before going to the NICU! It's got awesome information. It's good that you have had a tour.....my DD came at 33 weeks due to HELLP and we were soooooo unprepared! Luckily, the nursing staff at our NICU were wonderful and took great care of DD!!! I hope all goes well for you!!!
