How much was your hosp bill?

Not how much insurance paid or what you owed, but how much was it total?

So far, we have just gotten a few ancillary bills (anesthesia and Jack's nursery bill).

How much was your bill if you don't mind sharing?

Re: How much was your hosp bill?

  • My hospital bill was just a little over $10,000.
  • Loading the player...
  • After insurance mine was only 1655.00 with delivery and anethesia.
  • My bill was $7400.  Baby's nursery bill was $1001.  His circ was $650.  My Dr bill was $3400.  Haven't seen my anesthesia bill yet, unless that's included with my hospital bill, but I doubt that.

  • $10,939.90 and my hospital did NOT have a nursery. They did everything right there in my room and LO stayed in my room. I can't imagine how much it woud have been with nursery.
  • before insurance, $22,000! I paid almost $3000. We got a summary of what we were going to pay from the insurance co. before any of our actual bills came.
  • $3873 for the OB bill, $6430 for the hospital bill.  I haven't seen the anesthesa (sp) yet.

  • I STILL haven't gotten my bill!  I got one for a lab fee that was $130 (I paid $6.50) and my OB care (our ins. bills one fee at the end instead of individual appt. fees) that was something like $5,000 (I paid $525).

I'm a little worried that I didn't get my bill yet but I'm not about to call the hospital and request it.  Maybe they'll just forget to bill me.  :o)

  • From the time I walked into the hospital until the day we left with DS is about $17,000:

    Post-partum room (for 31 hours): 5,674

    Newborn nursery: 3,314

Pharmacy - prescription (for 1 dose of benadryl and nubain): 248

Pharmacy - OTC (for 3 colace and 6 motrin): 24

    Lab - General: 317

    Lab - Chemistry: 44

    Lab - Immunology: 78

    Lab - Hematology: 178

    Epidural: 1,100

    L&D room: 5,674

That doesn't include any prenatal care, bloodwork, NST's, or u/s. We only paid $10 from my first prenatal visit to my post-partum visit.

  • My total bill was over $52,000.  I only have to pay $1200 in co-pays.
  • $0.00!  Everything is covered under our insurance.  I think all the claims that came in for me and DD2 was probably close to $25,000.00.  I had a C-section and stayed 2 nights.
  • Mine was just over $13,000. I had to pay $162. Thank God for insurance or I would probably be either childless or homeless!

  • Total was well into the 6 figures. I paid $0. Medicaid is going to blacklist me from future pregnancies.
  • Mine was about $19,000 for just the hospital for me (an extra 4500 for DS even though he was in my room the whole time).  That doesnt include any of the other bills.  In total everything was about $35,000 before insurance and I had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery.

  • $14,000+. I had a vag delivery but was there for 4 nights because of my long induction.  My epidural was charged by the minute! Yikes.

I'll have to pay $3500 max.

  • The birth center was $3400 for both DS and I, I'm not sure what insurance is covering yet.

  • My bill was $10,500

    Sarah's bill was $3300

    Anesthesia was $990

My doctor was $2400 plus $500 for his associate (I had a c-section, and they assist each other in there c-sections.)

I thought my water had broken the Friday before I delivered on Tuesday.  That bill alone was $1200, and I was only at the hostipal for 1 hour.

    Thank goodness for insurance!

  • We're up to almost 30K and the claims are still rolling in. I was in for 8 days to due a long (failed) induction that ended up in a c/s. L spent 4 days in the NICU and that's approx half the bill right now... I expect her portion to be more than half after everything is accounted for.
  • About 25K, insurance paid for it (at a reduced percentage--how does that work?).  I couldn't believe the epidural was $4000--I can't imagine not having insurance and having to decide if you could afford the epi!

  • Ballpark - around $20K, I think.  We were in for four days - admission day, the day I delivered, and the following day waiting for my blood enzymes to return to normal (I had preE and HELLP syndrome).  Then we had to stay one more day for DS's jaundice.  I had a vaginal delivery, but the preE and HELLP meant a few more interventions than we had planned.

  • Hi Pachey!

Ours came to 22,000 and this included everything. Insurance covered almost everything. We owe around 1400.

  • Over 100,000. I ended up with an emergency c-section and my baby spent 8 days in NICU.

My maternity was not covered under insurance, so we owe a pretty large amount still. Luckily, her NICU stay was covered (after our deductible of course).

  • It was originally about $20,000. We have no insurance and are self-pay so we "only" owe $8k now. Still sucks..
  • i would just like to say my insurance isn't that great so this post scares me IndifferentCrying.
  • wow some of you who say you paid nothing I want your insurance!!

    • What I paid OB for their services for entire 9 months $420
    • Hospital Room $7,362
    • Pharmacy $792
    • Medical Supplies $1,092
    • Lab $2,858
    • Anestesia $649
    • Blood (I had a blood transfusion) $1,194
    • Recovery Room $2,565
    • Birthing Services $10,497
    • Nursery and Baby Care $9,161
    • Anesthesioligist $1,328

$37,918 Wow thats the first time I have actually added it up. Total I think my out of pocket was around $1,700. I am saving my hospital bills for her baby book. It will be fun to look back in many years.

  • From the few explanation of benefits I've seen, so far it's adding up to around $8,000. However, DS had to stay in the nursery one night due to breathing issues, and I haven't seen that one yet.

DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.

  • We haven't gotten anything yet! I am dying to know though. I am recently obsessed with the total billed amount vs. what insurance pays vs. what I pay.

    The difference is astounding.
