I've been tasked with planning out the lactation room for my new office space. I'm hanging up curtains and getting a fridge. I've never been inside a lactation room - are there any other nice/need to have features?
That is so great of your company to do that, and awesome for you to take the lead! DH's old office in SF had one, and I used it to nurse once when we were visiting Daddy at work. It was a small office, and had a glider, small table where you could put your pump and plugs to set up your laptop, a phone, sink, fridge, and microwave. There was also one of those hands free pumping bra things, but I'm not sure if someone had just left that behind. I also don't recall seeing any windows.
This is so cool. My lactation room (aka former supply closet) leaves a lot to be desired. We have a chair, a table, a large fan (b/c we have no windows) and that's about it. I think the fridge is a great idea. A couple of the girls that use the room have talked about making a bulletin board or something to put some pix of our babies. Also, maybe a magazine rack or basket.
I pumped in an empty office and was the only person who pumped there. If it were just a room, I'd want a comfy chair, a table (even a small one) from my pump, an outlet, possibly a smallish lamp (overhead lights are just not relaxing , maybe a rack or basket for magazines, and some way to signify that it was in use (either a locked door or a special sign). My sign was a stuffed cow hung from the doornob.
Re: Ladies who have lactation rooms at work!
I wish - but the only sink room in the whole office space is the kitchen.
