nasal congestion??

So my DS isn't showing any signs of being sick but his nose is so congested.  It has been like this for over a week now.  I have tried everything I can think of ...saline drops, vicks, hot shower for steam in bathroom.....is this worth calling the dr.  I feel kind of silly but it doesn't seem to be getting any better.  Anyone ever delt with this.  It is more than just your newborn congestion.

Re: nasal congestion??

  • My DD has been congested for like 3 weeks now....she was like that when she went in for her 2 months shots and the pedi said it was normal, that she's still getting used to her outside environment and to use a cool mist humidifier, saline drops and just keep using the bulb cleaner to clean her nose.  I wish there was something more I could do to make her uncongested...

  • Have you tried suctioning his nose?  I have to do this every so often with my baby.  I do a few drops of saline and then suction and it comes out every time.

  • I took DD to the doctor yesterday for that because we know a lot of people with RSV.  No RSV, just a cold thankfully.  Have you tried suctioning his nose?  Are you BFing?  If so you can squirt milk in his nose.  DD has been this way for two weeks, but this cold is apparently just being very stubborn.  The pedi said to bring her in if I notice her chest sinking when she's breathing or if she gets a fever that doesn't come down with tylenol.

  • Oh, our pedi also said it happens a lot with babies because their airways are very narrow still.  My LO does have a cold with a cough as well, but it's common.

  • I tried suctioning his nose but nothing seems to come out.  Maybe I need a better suction thing.  I have been running the humidifier all day and night also.  I am breastfeeding and sometimes he seems to have trouble eating because he can't breath very well out of his nose.  I feel so bad but not sure if it is worth calling pedi or waiting another week or so.
