2nd Trimester

opinions on body pillows

I'm officially at a point where sleeping is uncomfortable. I've always been a tummy sleeper, and now its getting harder to do. I'll start out fine but then wake up because my stomach feels hard, so I try to go back to my sides. Then my sides hurt. I know eventually my stomach will be out of the question all together. Who uses a body pillow and who just shoves a regular one between your legs? I'm only 4 months in, I don't want sleepless nights already!

Re: opinions on body pillows

  • I just put a regular one between my knees, but we also have a pillow top mattress so I think that helped a lot

Ask your OB about taking Tylenol PM's  :)

  • I have the boppy pregnancy pillow and it's in a closet.  I usually just prop myself up with pillows....we have a temperpedic bed though which is a miracle for sleep in itself.

Def don't hesitate taking tylenol PM if you aren't sleeping, I dealt with insomnia for too long before I finally asked my midwife about it.

  • Like the PP said, I also have a boppy pillow--and well its never used, in a closet. It was comfortable in the beginning and now, I would wake up fighting with it because it only allowed me to move one way so I always threw it on the floor.

I'm also a belly sleeper, and I wake up probably about once every hour to hour and a half because I'm always uncomfortable. I also have severe hip problems (had them pre-pregnancy) and that contributes to my uncomfortableness...

ANYWAYS--lol, sorry was on a tagent, I sleep with a pillow in between my legs if I'm on my side, and one under part of my back if I'm on my back. If I'm sleeping half on my side and half on my belly, then I have a pillow under my belly and I "hug" it.

Also, I would definitely tell you to take Tylenol PM if your having trouble sleeping that much already. It helps with the discomfort and also lets you get a good night sleep.

    GL!

  • I have a full length body pillow and I use it every night, but in all honesty I don't find it all that much better than just a pillow between the legs.  I guess it gives you something to hug as well, and you can sort of lie half on your stomach, resting on the body pillow, while still having part of it between your legs.  I use it because I have it, and I figure it will also be useful to wrap around me and use for breastfeeding later.  But you could achieve the same result with a couple of pillows.

  • Get the Snoogle! I love it. I got it during my first pregnancy and it helped a ton. Its a big C shaped pillow, very comfy and easy to adjust...well except if you roll over in the middle of the night...then u have to fling the whole thing to the other side of you...but its well worth it. It was the first thing I got out when I found out I was pregnant again. Its kind of pricey but worth it for all the sleep you'll get!
  • I have the regular body pillow. It cost $7 and was so much better than a $50 pregnancy pillow. Its lasted me this long and has been wonderful.

    This.  I love my snoogle!

  • I have a snoogle too, and I really don't like it.  However, I am 5'11 and I actually think I may be a little tall for it.

  • I LOVE my snoogle.  As a tummy sleeper, I think it's great.  It gives me something to throw my leg over and keeps me from moving around too much.

  • After weeks of uncomfortable sleep I have perfected my method. I'm going to share it with you :)

I have the boppy pregnancy pillow and I love love love it. I use that on the edge away from DH. In the middle of us I have a small beany pillow. (Know what I'm talking about?) When I sleep facing the boppy, I put it between my legs and put my belly on top of it. Then I have the beany pillow behind me and a little bit of it under my back/butt. When I face the beany pillow, I just put the boppy between my legs still - even though it's behind me. Then I prop my belly up on the beany pillow. I was literally thinking just last night how comfortable I was.

The only issue with the beany pillow is that my one cat loves to lay on it and I have to move him to the foot of the bed several times a night. Stick out tongue HTH!

This! I looooove my Snoogle. DH bought it for me for Christmas and I immediately started sleeping better. I tried just a regular pillow in between my legs at first but I couldn't keep it there. Its totally worth the money, although DH calls it the "Husband Buffer" or "Anti sex device" hehe.
