the 1 year appt is HORRIBLE

OMG! I wanted to cry with Ethan. He had the finger prick and they had to fill a little vial then he had 4 shots. He screamed and cried for a good 5 minutes after the nurse left the room. It was harder for me to go through this than to watch him have blood drawn from his little wrist at 3 days old. He is 20lb 13 oz(25th%) and 28 1/2 inches(15th%). The dr said he was right on track for everything and he is perfect. Now I am just worried about him trying to get the bandaid off of his finger. I always think of sunnygirls story when ethan has a bandaid on

Aww. Poor Ethan. Eve's 1 year appt is not for another month (march 12th, I think). I will have to mentally prepare myself.

Poor guy - that is a double whammy. Definitely one of the most traumatic things for me to watch was when I had to take him for a blood draw for his 1 yr. tests. They took it from his arm, just like an adult. Plus the first lab tech didn't really know what she was doing, so he was really wound up by the time the second one came in to do it. The fact that he had to go through all that broke my heart. I just sat on the floor of the room for a good 5 minutes snuggling with him before we made an effort to leave.

But to get shots on top of that - I don't know how you did it and stayed sane. Good Mommy.

Poor little man!!! My pedi does a blood draw at the 9 month appt. since there are no shots. Guess they are all different.

Awww....it breaks your heart to see them in pain!! As far as the bandaid goes...I bet you could probably take it off now.

Awww! Justin's iron came back really high (he eats tons of veggies so I figured it would be) so she took off the bandaid and "squeezed" him again. It was a heartbreaker.

Oh man, sorry it was a rough one for him!! DS usually cries a bit for the shots...but for his blood draw he just flirted with the nurse! It took quite a while though...drop by drop. I think it seems harder as time goes by since we're not used to hearing them cry much anymore.

What's the bandaid story??

Poor Ethan and poor mommy! That is so hard! I hated when Eva had to have her blood work done. They did the prick and couldn't get enough blood so they had to do a draw from her arm too- it was pure hell. But a sticker made it all better for her. Me, I cried the whole way home.

Reed's regular pedi appointments are a piece of cake compared to his cancer follow up appointments where he can't eat beforehand and then has to get strapped down for a ct scan that I have to leave the room and listen to him scream from outside the door...they also have to inject him with dye and then take blood and urine samples. All in all, those days are way worse than his quick well visits at the regular pedi. I always remind myself that even though we go through this every 3 months he has been so fortunate to not have to go through chemo and radiation. Well visits are just so reaffirming that I am thankful to have checked out regularly even if it does mean he cries a bit.

Poor boy! I HATE those appointments with a passion. You really do need to physically, mentally and emotionally prepare yourself. I don't know if I posted about it but Bella's 2 year appointment was like that and she was so traumatized by the time we got home that she was in a blank stare for at least a minute after I opened up the car door to get her out. totally freaked me out.
