Tell me how it felt BEFORE it broke. Like did you feel alot of pressure first or pain and then your water broke, or did it just break with no pain or pressure before it did? Sorry i know this may be annoying to some but i just want to know what to look out for
Re: If your water broke on its own...
I didn't feel pressure or pain besides the contractions I was having. (I was having regular contrax 4 mins apart for 5 hours before my water broke)
when it did break i felt a little "pop" and then warm water came gushing down my legs. (and didn't stop gushing all through my labor) It almost felt like I was holding a water balloon between my thighs
and some people say they think they peed, but for me there was no doubt, I knew exactly what happened.

I figure I was between 9-10 cm when mine broke, (I started pushing about 15 min later). I had been in labor almost 6 hours and I threw up and it broke while I was throwing up.
So I didn't feel any pain or pressure from it that I know of, I was too busy dealing with contrax

I had my membranes stripped, and the next day, my water started leaking. So I'm not sure if it happened on its own or not. BUT...
I felt nothing. I got up at 2:30am to pee and seemed "wetter" than usual. No contractions (never had one at that point, not even BH). I wasn't sure if it was my water or not, so I dried things up and decided to wait an hour. Well, 15 mins later, I was soaked again, so I called the doc and ended up in L&D because they determined it was my water leaking.
That being said, on our way to the hospital, I started feeling a stabbing pain in my left lower back (nothing in the front or on the right side of my back). Turns out, those were contractions! lol
I spent the wkend walking.. evening before almost 4 miles (to get good maternity shots at Unisphere in Queens, NY at sunset! - the big globe thing!).. - anything for a photo!!) and when I went to bed that night around 11ish.. my legs felt swollen/tight up to my knees (I really didn't have much swelling during my pregnancy..) but I noticed it when I climbed into bed. I was dreaming about how active the baby was and telling somebody in my dream...(she was quite a kicker in utero).. and I woke up with her kicking.. then felt a "pop" at 2:03am!..sort of felt like a release...not any pressure or anything..I layed in bed a few minutes longer while I woke up and thought.. "is that what I think it is?" and stood up to the big gush they all talk about. was clear, which is what they tell you to look out for and take note of.. time and color.
I was 38 wks and 6 days.. and it was 2 days before a full moon.. so I attributed it to walk and the full moon approaching.. I had even posted online about the full moon that night!!! funny to go back and look at posts and see the other girls had their babies, too. There's something to a full moon and gravitational pull!
I got to hospital at 3:30am, went to delivery room at 7am, given pitocin at 8am, epi at 9am, started real pushing at 1pm My DD was born at 2:56pm that day.
Hope this helps.. Good luck to you! Go for a nice long walk if you can stand it!
Ditto, there will be a tidal wave.

With DS I didn't feel anything before. And it was such a small squirt/leak, that I didn't even realize it was my water until I was in active labor - like 3 days later. The dr broke it in the hospital b/c the tear was so small and high up - that's why it came out in the little squirts.
With DD, I went into active labor first and had just gotten my epidural. My nurse went to get the dr to have her break it and she had literally just stepped out of my room when I heard the pop! and felt the gush.
Two very different experiences!
I was in bed when I felt like something was "breaking" like really lower in my belly. I ran to the bathoom and I notice I was bleeding heavely. That got me pretty scared (I never thought the spotting thing would be like that). I ran to the hospital. When I got to the ER room my water broke. By then I was still bleeding so it took a while to notice that something else was going on. I kept bleeding during all the time I was in labor(12 hours)
