How much are you paying for Childbirthing classes?

Just curious what the "average" going rate is.

Re: How much are you paying for Childbirthing classes?

  • I'm just taking a one day class that's $100--I think my insurance covers $80.

  • My hospital offers the childbirthing classes for free.  We are also going to take a childcare/first aid/infant CPR class though and that one costs $75.

  • My hospital offers them for free...
  • $40...we live in a small, rural community...not sure if that matters or not.

    Same for me

  • Childbirth class is $200 at our hospital, which I think is crazy.

    BFing class is $50

  • We'll be paying around $250 for a Bradley-type class.

  • My hospital charges $120 for the six week (2 hour 15 min each week) class that includes childbirth, infant care, and breastfeeding.  We are also taking infant CPR which is $25 per couple.
  • There were 2 classes offered one by midwifes & another by a nurse.  I chose to take the class with a midwife which is a 4 week class  where it's every tuesday from 6 to 7:30pm & it is $155.  The other class was a 5 week class once a week for 2 hours & was $365.  I also live outside of U.S. so I am not sure how the prices compare.  When I asked my Dr. if there was one better then other she told me no so I went with the cheaper & shortest length of class.
  • $65 for childbirth and baby care classes. I think there is one that is all day or a few classes that are 2 hours at a time.

$20 for breastfeeding, but they have a place in town that does them for free.

We're skipping the childbirth/babycare class. Not because of the money, but we've heard it's a waste of time. I think this totally depends on where you take them. This probably isn't true for EVERY class everywhere.

  • Hospital's class is $40

  • We are taking one that is $145 and then probably a BF class at the hospital that is free.
  • We paid 195 for childbirth, infant care, and breastfeeding.

4 weeks of 2.5 hr classes....one all day class....and one more 3 hr class

  • Mine was $75. At the hospital, 4 2-hour classes.

Some insurances will pay or reimburse you, so look into it.

Mine won't Sad but $75 isn't that bad, so I didn't worry about it.

I forgot to add, it's a natural childbirth class. I priced a few others, and  Hypnobirthing is $325, and the Bradley class is also around $300. I guess San Diego is slightly pricier for classes like this! One BFing class I'm taking is free, the other is around $50.

DH is taking a First Time Dad class for $40.

  • We're in downtown Chicago, in case location matters.

$100 for our childbirth class from 9am - 4:30pm, with lunch and tour of the family birthplace.

$30 each for other child preparation/prenatal classes we wish to take

  • $25 for a total of 3 different classes [held in 4 sessions] through our delivering hospital.
  • Ours is $65 for an all day class at our hospital!
  • Ours was included in the fee for the birthcenter. 6 sessions over 6 weeks Hypnobabies class, 3 hours each day. You can also go back and take it again if you need to.
  • Our hospital made them free 2 years ago.

  • $150 for a 4 day (Saturday) class.  2.5 hours each.  $35 for a BF class.  Both of which are at my hospital in LA.

    This. $275 for 12 weeks.

  • I only plan to take two...    Basic Breastfeeding is $20,  and Newborn Care is $45.

I wasn't aware that sometimes insurance will cover things like this....we have military insurance, so I may look into seeing if there are free classes on post.
